Seafood for Thought 2013 – Toronto Zoo
What could possibly be a better way to spend a beautiful summer evening other than tasting delectable seafood by some of Toronto’s finest chefs? Seafood for Thought, a partnership between the Toronto Zoo and Seafood Watch, a program created to support fisheries and fish farms that are better for the environment, took place on Thursday June 20, 2013.
Proceeds from the fundraiser went to the Toronto Zoo‘s Conservation Fund for projects that will protect wildlife and wild spaces. To see how you can contribute to this cause, the sustainable seafood guide outlining ‘best’, ‘good’ and ‘avoid’ options can be found at the following link:
This event featured Toronto’s best in culinary talent from some of the city’s best restaurants, including Le Sélect Bistro, LUMA, Globe & earth, Trios Bistro, Vertical restaurant, and so on. The station by Damon Campbell of the Shangri-La Hotel Toronto featured a Sardine Mousse and Salmon Roe served with dill and sea crackers. Ted Corrado of the Drake Hotel, fashioned a spectacular fish taco that had attendees waiting in droves. The beer and wine sponsors thankfully provided the perfect accompaniment for the seafood. The only drawback for the evening was the line ups, a sure sign of the event’s popularity! Although I love oysters, I just could wait that long for this fresh flavor…
The ‘scene stealer’ for the night was of course the two pandas who recently arrived at the zoo from China: Er Shun and Da Mao, who prefer bamboo to seafood!
