70 Down Restaurant Relaunches with Modern Eastern Mediterranean Tapas
70 Down Restaurant Yorkville Relaunches with New Modern Eastern Mediterranean Menu, New Cocktails, and New Brand
Tuesday, November 17, 2015, was the day 70 Down Restaurant hosted its relaunch party. The party was in celebration of the restaurant’s new menu, new cocktails, and new brand.
Nestled in the glamourous Yorkville neighbourhood, 70 Down has a great ambience and very courteous staff.
All throughout the night, the party’s hosts and restaurant’s staff approached the guests and asked them if they were enjoying themselves.
The restaurant was spacious with chestnut brown leather furniture with industrial detail, crystal geodes displayed on the bookcase in the back, and two blown-up images of famous National Geographic photos plastered on the walls.
Throughout the night, specialty cocktails were served to the guests. The specialty cocktails served were the 70 South Side and the Cyn Cyn Sour.
The 70 South Side is a gin-based drink with cucumber juice, lime juice, peppermint bitters, and garnished with freshly cracked black pepper. The Cyn Cyn Sour is a sweeter take on the Bourbon Sour — made with bourbon, chocolate bitters, and cynar. 70 Down Restaurant also featured an impressive wine list.
The best part of the evening was the food. 70 Down serves Mediterranean cuisine with Middle Eastern influences. One can see the Moroccan, Iranian, Indian, and Turkish flavours integrated into each of the five dishes that were served to the guests.
Some of the food served included mini joojeh (a charbroiled lemon saffron chicken skewer), bolani (Afghani style pierogies), and shirazi (chopped cucumbers, tomatoes, and red onion marinated in lemon mint vinaigrette and topped with Halloumi cheese).
Many of the guests loved the Moroccan fish tacos, which were made with fresh pieces of halibut and topped with a fragrant garlic paste. The montu was also a huge hit! These were delectable beef and onion dumplings served with a juicy tomato sauce and garnished with dried mint.
If one is in the Yorkville neighbourhood and fancy some pretty tasty Eastern Mediterranean food in a stylish setting, 70 Down Restaurant is the place to visit!
