A Roman Holiday at Lo Zingaro Ristorante
A Roman Holiday – Lo Zingaro, Pizzeria perfecto
For those of us who prefer an authentic Italian thin crust pizza, this is the place you’ve been waiting for! View the Vibe teamed up with Lo Zingaro last week to bring us a Roman Holiday. Lo Zingaro, a restaurant/ pizzeria on the Queen St. West strip, has authentic style Italian food, just like it is made in Rome, Italy, set in a modern rustic interior.
As starter, we were offered the Tagliere di Salumi e Formaggi (salami and cheese tray) Insalata Caprese, and Suppli (very large rice balls). The best Antipasto, however, was the Calamari Fritti! Some of the freshest fried octopus we’ve ever had and a far cry from what is typically served at chain restaurants. Pair it with Peroni beer, or their selection of Italian red and white wines. The evening’s refreshing special cocktail was made with Prosecco and Aperol, perfect for the summer!
At Lo Zingaro there are four types of pizza to choose from: White, Red, Spicy and Dairy Free pizzas. A favorite for meat lovers is the Lucifero with San Marzano tomatoes, homemade spicy pork sausage, homemade spicy guanciale, ricotta salata, and fior di latte. For Vegetarians, the Bufalina topped with fresh Arugula cherry tomatoes and olives was a hit. And who could make such fabulous pizza’s? Chef Lorenzo who impressed us with his pizza making skills in the back room next to the open kitchen, is from Rome of course!
But the real question is ‘How did Audrey Hepburn keep so thin while eating all this delicious pizza in the movie Roman Holiday?’…
