There’s a reason why the Maldives dominates the luxury travel industry. Imagine spending all day in a bikini at the whitest beach, only get out of the water when you’re too hungry to swim, pedal or wakeboard any longer. After stuffing yourself with gourmet food like fresh lobster and caviar, doze off and sunbathe on the sunny beach when itis hits then dive back into the underwater kingdom to catch up with your new friends: baby sharks and manta rays. When sunstroke hits, there is also a shaded private swimming pool in your suite, complete with an open-air shower and a bathtub, where you can bathe in a bubble bath while singing along with nature’s symphony. A private beach connects to your backdoor so you can ditch them bikini after a shower and run wild towards a warm skinny dip!
Sadly, this luxury is not affordable for all. Both financial-wise and time-wise.
As usual, as I was looking for a place to enjoy both fine food and breathe nature on this unbearable city called Taipei, I found a “mini- Maldives” resort called Blue Villa (Xin Lan She) on the north coast of Taipei.
The first floor of Blue Villa is a luxury guest room providing accommodation, and the second floor is a restaurant with a scenic view of the sea. There is also an outdoor private swimming pool on the first floor where guests can pose for potential viral Instagram photos. The restaurant offers indoor seats and outdoor seats, and the patio provides direct access to Qianshui Bay (Qianshuiwan), which reminds me of the private beach connected to our suite in the Maldives. I love making out with nature, so I opt for a seat outside “naturally.” As hard as we tried to fight the autumn winds, our caring server convinced us to return indoors for a warmer meal. About half of the guests on the patio end up playing at the beach, bringing back my memories of dining at the seaside Restaurant in Greece. I was also distracted halfway working through my lobster and ended up lazing on the beach for the rest of the day.

套餐有分$1280的「精選套餐」或$1880 的欣藍舍Blue Villa牛排套餐可以點。
Blue Villa‘s menu features a variety of Italian pasta and risotto, all priced at $420. For risottos, diners have an option of Italian rice or Taiwanese rice. For the carnivores, “American Angus Prime Rib Eye 6 oz Steak” ($1980) and “Bawang Chicken (Korean Fried Chicken)” are available.
Set menus include a “Select menu” at $1280 or a Blue Villa Steak Set-menu priced at $1880.
Since we’re dining by the sea, we feel for seafood and order the “select-menu with the following choices: “Japanese-seafood soup, ” shrimp with yam” for the appetizer,” and “salmon fillet” for main.
For health and lust reasons, we also order the
“sautéed organic vegetables” ($300) and “squid ink risotto (I fancy a dirty and passionate french with Mr. seafood)” ($420).
精選套餐: 日式干貝鮮蝦海鮮湯/ (Set-menu): Japanese Seafood Soup
the seafood soup is served with just a piece of scallop and a shrimp in the bowl, then our server completes the dish by pouring boiling Japanese seafood broth into the bowl. The scallop is jumbo and slightly torched on the top, releasing aromas of slightly burnt seafood when it meets the hot soup and getting me all excited. The scallop is raw in the middle and tender enough to cut with one hand.
精選套餐前菜：天使紅蝦焗烤節瓜 / Set-menu Appetizer: Shrimp with Zucchinni
I’m not sure if Blue Villa changes their menu daily or not, but our appetizer is “shrimp with baked zucchini” instead of “shrimp with yam” when served.” the shrimp is fresh and tender, and lies on a piece of yellow zucchini baked with cheese, topped with a piece of decorative crispy cracker. The plating is beautiful.
精選套餐主菜：香煎鮭魚 / Set-menu Main Dish: Salmon Fillet
Salmon fillet is pan-fried to perfection: crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.
Squid ink risotto is covered with squid ink and cream, topped with tentacles and saffron. The rice has a firm and chewy texture, choosing “Italian rice” instead of mushy Taiwanese rice is the right decision.
精選套餐甜點:鮮奶酪 / Set-menu Dessert: Panna Cotta
The daily dessert is panna cotta, perfect for a stuffed stomach.
清炒有機時蔬 ($300) / Sauteed Vegetables ($300)
Blue Villa creates a mini island-style resort right on the north coast of Taipei, it is definitely worth revisiting every once a while for a “staycation”.
