National Ballet School (NBS)’s Casablanca Gala 2014
On Feb 7, 2014, Canada’s National Ballet School (NBS)’s annual fundraiser turned The Carlu into its own version of Rick’s Café Casablanca, with 1940’s glam and Moroccan accents.

This year’s NBS Casablanca Gala, presented by TD Bank Financial Group, aims to raise 30% of the annual funds for the National Ballet School, which also covers 72% of funds for the Professional Ballet Program students who require financial assistance.

The theme Casablanca had guests dressed to their best in 40’s style to enjoy a night of entertainment, casino games, and Moroccan-inspired gourmet food. Canadian soprano Antonella Cavallaro brought the 40s back to life with her alluring vocals and songs from the film Casablanca. À la Carte Kitchen Inc. served an exquisite four-course Moroccan dinner, culminated in the National Ballet School’s ballet performance by the students. Raffle tickets were available for purchase featuring prizes up to $49,000, and a stunning set of ‘Him & Her’ jewellery provided by Mindham Fine Jewellery as the grand prize (valued at over $32,000).
To encourage and introduce a younger crowd to the art form of ballet, this year’s Casablanca Gala offered a special “35 and Under” ticket at a reduced price. Ticket holders of the “35 and Under” were able to enjoy the reception with NBS student ambassadors, gourmet hors d’oeuvres, and all the dazzling performances and entertainment.
