The Canadian Film Centre(CFC)’s annual BBQ Fundraiser is a highlight of the TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival). The event brings together members of the Canadian film and television industry to celebrate the achievements of the CFC in the area of education in film, tv, music and digital media. This year, for the 28th annual bbq, approximately 2000 guests came to the beautiful grounds of the Windfields Estate in North York to pay tribute to the accomplishments of Canadian talents. Funds raised at the event go to help the CFC‘s various programs.

TIFF 2016featured several films by CFC alumni including CLEO, Window Horses, Mean Dreams, The Headhunter’s Calling, Below Her Mouth, Maudie, Two Lovers and a Bear, Weirdos, Black Code and The River of My Dreams.

Producer Christina Jennings, chair of CFC‘s board of directors, started off the afternoon. CFC CEO Slawko Klymkiw thanked everyone for their support and belief in the CFC.

CFC founder and legendary Canadian producer/director, Norman Jewison, spoke proudly about the accomplishments of the CFC graduates and their successes worldwide. Being Sept 11, he also brought forward a moment of silence to pay tribute to the attack on the World Trade Center.

There were plenty of bbq food options to choose from. 10tation Event Catering served mini chicken and mini vegetable banh mi dressed with hoison aioli), Fat Lamb Kouzina Catering,Food Studio Catering, The Mighty Cob, Pizzaville and Quesada Burritos & Tacos also provided some delicious bites. s, .Drinks were provided by Crystal Head Vodka (Hot Headed made with Crystal Head vodka,Thai chili, lemon, and fresh basil leaves, and Crystal Clear” prepared withCrystal Head vodka with soda and lemon), Flow Water, Magnotta Winery, Brickworks Cider and Mill Street Brewery.Gelato Fresco, Holy Cannoli, and Lollicake put a sweet finish to the event.
In the Greenhouse, there was a cool virtual reality set up using the HTC Vive headset, and we were able to participate in the games.
Adaline and Tomi Swick performed their music for the guests.
