Canadian Premiere of DURANGO by Julia Cho
We attended the gala reception and preview of Julia Cho‘s DURANGO, held at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre.
Produced by Theatre Smash and fu-GEN Asian Canadian Theatre Company, DURANGO is directed by Ashlie Corcoran and it stars fu-GEN artistic director David Yee, Hiro Kanagawa, Philip Nozuka, Ardon Bess, and Adrian Shepherd.
DURANGO is the story of a Korean immigrant, Boo-Seng Lee (Hiro Kanagawa), who is suddenly laid off from his job of twenty years.
Defeated and disillusioned with his life, he invites his sons to take a road trip to Durango, Colorado. Older son, Isaac Lee (David Yee) is a pre-med student with a chip on his shoulder. Younger son, Jimmy Lee (Philip Nozuka) is a high school student and champion swimmer who secretly spends his time creating his own comic book superhero, The Red Angel (Adrian Shepherd). Boo-Seng‘s perfectionism takes its toll on himself and on his relationship with his sons. As the road trip continues, painful secrets are revealed and the family ties are tested.
At the gala reception, there was a colouring book station, a silent auction, and an opportunity to mingle with the cast of DURANGO.
Song Cook’s Authentic Korean Restaurant provided delicious vegetarian wraps, beef wraps, sushi, vegetarian spring rolls and sweet and spicy rice cakes.
DURANGO features a talented cast and is a definite must see.
DURANGO runs from May 16- 31. Tickets available buddiesinbadtimes.com
