David Cronenberg: Evolution Opening Party at TIFF Lightbox Celebrates Over 40 Years of Body Horror
Twelve years in the making, the first ever major original touring exhibition curated by TIFF opened at the TIFF Lightbox on November 1, 2013- David Cronenberg: Evolution. Running until January 19, the exhibition will take you back to the first days of Cronenberg‘s works filled with body horror.
In every corner of the building during the David Cronenberg: Evolution Opening Gala, unique experiences awaited adventurous pre-Halloween party goers with Cronenberg inspired installations, cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.
The exhibition started in the HSBC Gallery where artifacts and costumes were on view.
One area that you don’t usually visit in the TIFF Lightbox building is the loading dock – behind the gallery I discovered a live band, a food truck as well as another cocktail bar. This zone was appropriately called Auto/Erotica!
Upstairs at LUMA restaurant, risk takers could gamble in this make shift casino, Ankara Social Club. My favourite spot for the evening was the TIFF Lounge, Freudian Slip. The lemon Mojito worked its magic at the bar.
Up at the top of the ramp, on the second floor, the artists from the Theatrix School of Makeup were making everyone look tough and scary at the Keloid Clinic. Russian prison tattoos were apparently the most popular look.
In the BMC Lab: Cinema Lobby, you could sample a custom dessert from a liquid nitrogen Ice Volcano.
This event felt like a fun house where you could discover new and exciting things around each corner, a fun and funky opening party at the TIFF Lightbox for one of Canada’s most influential and internationally acclaimed film-makers!
