Dora Mavor Moore Awards 2014
For the first year in its thirty five year history, the Dora Mavor Moore Awards were held at the outdoor theatre of the WestJet Stage at Toronto’s Harbourfront Centre on Monday June 23, 2014. Administered by the Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts (TAPA), the Doras are awarded for excellence in the performing arts.

The evening started with a VIP reception at the Lakeside terrace where guests enjoyed light snacks and wine. Theatre lovers were dressed to impress!
The rain showers did not dampen this year’s program which was hosted by Matt Baram and Naomi Snieckus who are both founding Artistic Directors of the National Theatre of the World.
There were over 238 nominations this year for 143 producing companies and 222 eligible productions in the 2013-2014 season.
Forty-eight Dora awards were handed out on June 23. Seven awards went to Soulpepper‘s “Of Human Bondage“; including, new play, direction, performance-ensemble and outstanding production. Six awards went to the Canadian Stage‘s musical “London Road” including outstanding production, direction, and musical direction.
In the Theatre for Young People Division, the “Sultans of the Street” by Young People’s Theatre earned five awards.
In the Opera Division, all four awards went to the Canadian Opera Company.
Co-sponsored by Now Magazine and the Yonge-Dundas Square, the Audience Choice Award for Outstanding Production was handed out to “Venus in Fur“, a Canadian Stage production.
