The 36th ANNUAL DORA MAVOR MOORE AWARDS, produced by the Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts (TAPA), was held on Monday at the Harbourfront Centre.

The awards recognise the excellence in theatre, opera, and dance field in Toronto.

The pre-show reception was attended by members of the theatre community, nominees, and dignitaries including Councillor Gary Crawford, George Randoph (Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts), Jacopa Knaapen (producer of the awards and executive director of TAPA), actor Rick Roberts, actor Albert Schultz (Soulpepper Theatre) and choreographer Sergio Trujillio (winner of the 2015 Olivier Award for the musical Memphis) .

This year’s awards show was hosted by the hilarious award-winning actor Gavin Crawford (This Hour Has 22 Minutes). Crawford opened the show as a singing and dancing Ontario Premier Wynne. He had the audience in stitches.

The musical “Once” was a surprise winner for Outstanding Production and for Outstanding Female Performance (Trish Lindstrom). Film director Atom Egoyan won outstanding direction for opera Die Walkure. Soulpepper Theatre won Outstanding Ensemble Performance for “Twelve Angry Men“.
