Fashion Trends Fall/Winter 2016 by Fashion Magazine

FASHION Magazine and Men’s FASHION magazine presented the Fall 2016 trends for the audience of media and fashionistas. The evening was held last Tuesday, July 22, at the Berkeley Church event space.

The FASHION Magazine panel presented their findings from the runaways. On the panel were editor-in-chief BERNADETTE MORRA, senior editor of fashion news SARAH CASSELMAN, beauty director LESA HANNAH, executive digital editor RANDI BERGMAN and editor-at-large ZEINA ESMAIL.

In the slide presentation, we saw some fascinating trends in clothing, makeup, and accessories.

The concept of Chaos was seen in the collections from designers Fausto Puglisi, Givenchy, Mary Katrantzou, Versace, Louis Vuitton, Carven, Marni, and Celine.
There were black lips and dark eyes during the John Richmond and Marc Jacobs shows.

Gucci was a definite inspiration and was visible on the runways from Sonia Rykiel, Chloe, Stella McCartney, Kenzo, Tommy Hilfiger, Blumarine and Alberta Ferretti.

Patches and appliques were seen in Gucci, Alice + Olivia, Christopher Kane, Miu Miu, Coach, Dolce Gabbana, Fendi, Kenzo, Tommy Hilfiger Louis Vuitton, Delpozo and Marc Jacobs.
They were also visible in the hair & makeup during the Rodarte, Alexander McQueen, and Anthony Vaccarello shows.


There was a definite love of fur in Dries Van Noten, Michael Kors, Maram Marc Jacobs, Fendi and Mary Katrantzou.
Capes are back and in full force at Gucci, Chloe, Marc Jacobs, Marni, and Jaquemus.
To keep warm, the puffers are a necessity. These coats were seen in Marc Jacobs and Vetements x Canada Goose.

“Check mate” was the trend, bringing checks in pants as shown by Victoria Beckham, Courreges, Dries Van Noten, Jason Wu, Jacquemus. Gucci, Marni, Isabel Marant, and Michael Kors

Glamour was present in “Shimmer”, which was evident in Dolce & Gabbana; and Shimmer in makeup for Burberry, Marc Jacobs, and Julien McDonald.

Smooth and soft velvet was abound at Rochas, Dries Van Noten, Stella McCartney Derek Lam, Alberta Ferretti and Ralph Lauren.

Glitz was there in the “Metallic” trend from Opening Ceremony, Lanvin, Aquilano Rimondi, Marc Jacobs, Greta Constantine and Michael Kors.

Big, oversized Shoulders were seen in Vetements, Greta Constantine, Delpozo, Dior, Miu Miu, Jeremy Scott, Derek Lam, Jaquemus and Dolce & Gabbana.

Who would think that Kim Kardashian would have an impact on fashion? She certainly does in the trend, Cinch City with cinched waists were seen in Balmain, Ellery, Victoria Beckham, Carven, DelPozo, Louis Vuitton, Muncler, Sacai, Loewe, Chanel, Moschino, and Jacquemus.

Wearing one earring makes things easier and was shown in Loewe, Stella McCartney, and Opening Ceremony.

The panel provided the recommended FASHION shopping list: Strong shoulders, collage dress, statement sweater, fur bag, full check pants, velvet platforms, single earring and dark red lipstick to complete the look.

In the second part of the evening, Men’s FASHION editor-in-chief David Livingstone presented his analysis of the fall menswear trends. Some of the trends were similar to those shown in the women’s collections.

The classic trench coat was a staple for Dries Van Noten, Burberry, Martin Margiela and Rick Owens.
The Puffer coat was available from Burberry, Rick Owens, Raf Simons Rag & Bone and Public School.
Set of matching garments (the suit), were in colours like purple from Versace and Thom Browne.

Pattern was big at Prada, Dsquared, Versace and Antonio Marras.

Red all over was eye-catching at Alexander McQueen, Paul Smith, Gucci, Raf Simons, Neil Barrett, Burberry, Sacai, Etro, and Junya Watanabe.

The Distressed look was seen at Raf Simons and Thom Browne.

Accessories for men was noteworthy with cool jewellery from Vivianne Westwood, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Antonio Marras, Alexander McQueen and Walter Van Beirendonck.
Interesting add-ons included must-have funky bags from Hermès and Thom Browne, sophisticated scarves from Hermès and “The Bloom (flowers in the hair)” as shown by COMME des GARÇONS.

At the cocktail hour, attendees enjoyed shrimp, spring rolls, thin crusted pizzas, and sliders. As a special treat, there were
Delysees bakery’s famous eclairs in Gianduja, raspberry, coconut lemon meringue and praline flavours.

Social Lite Lime Ginger Vodka, Aperol spritz, Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc, Steam Whistle and Flow Water also provided refreshments.
