FGI S/S 14 Megatrends event

FGI (Fashion Group International Toronto)held their most popular- TRENDS! event on Wednesday, November 14th at 417 Lounge, where Stylesight returns with an exclusive presentation of their acclaimed Megatrends Forecast for the S/S 2014 season. Jamie Thomas, Stylesight‘s Director of Global Trend Services was there to give members and guests an in-depth forecast revealing the macro trends for S/S 14 with four themes- Real, Eden, Rational and Creed.

Real: Inspired by real things. e.g. photos with nostalgic feel, instagram, insta-glasses, insta-movies; 70s influence (e.g. 70’s Yves Saint Laurent), tourism. Key designing elements include neutral colours, oversizing, natural materials, denim, tortoiseshell, 70s upholstery fabrics.

Eden: Fun, all about self-expression and extravagance. Inspired by nature (e.g. Marc Jacobs cruise resort collection), tropical locations, Surrealism (e.g. Schiaparelli ), the 60’s . Key designing elements include prints with psychedelic effects, CMYK color blocking , feathers, floral prints, animal prints. Color ranges from pink ->salmon-> orange-> bright yellow.

Rational: Minimal, inspired by science & mathematic  sequence, egyptian pyramids, origami, russian constructivism & architectural elements. Key colors ranges from brown->blush pink->matte grey.  Key design elements include linear shapes (e.g Alexander Wang: geometric, black & white) , mathematical prints, sea shell x-ray prints, laser cutting, nets, pleats.

Creed: All about spirituality & exploration. Inspired by ocean, sea creatures, and new safari. Colors ranges from electric Blues-> yellow-> pink. Key designing elements include saturated colours, seashell textures, circular shapes, light materials
