  • 入口的LED燈寫著「 Normal Gets You Nowhere」(中譯:太正常的人走不了多遠),看到它,殘編知道我來對專屬我的怪咖聚集所。專為自拍打卡用的搖滾區讓我們跟舞廳閃光燈球先自拍個三百張再說。 經過一輪瘋狂嗨翻天的搖滾照後,我們經過一區大桌子沙發座位區,抵達酒吧區和「普通桌座位區。」雖然我是室外控,但台灣潮濕刺骨的噁心冬天讓我寧可被幽閉恐懼症凌虐。

“Normal Gets You Nowhere,” the LED sign at the entrance tells me I’m at the right place for freaks just like me. The Disco booth gets our rock off. After a crazy round of disco selfies, passing an area of ample table couch seating is the bar area and the regular table seating area. Although I’m a patio junkie, the combination of winter season + Taiwan’s nasty humidity is not quite the ideal condition for outdoor seating.

我,那區只開放給VIP貴賓。讓我這個女王瞬間感到失寵,跟著我的粉紅拐杖一起垂頭喪氣,跛腳回到「普通座位區」忍受這樣的差別待遇。

I am queen, I want to sit in the “royal looking lounge with princess diamond drapes, but my server tells me that’s reserved for VIPs only. Prejudice! I might be holding a cane. But what he doesn’t know is with the 1% more brainpower from all my treatments, it turns anyone into dust with just a bit mind control. I feel judged. But since my wand is in its cane form, I sit down at the “regular table” area like an ordinary civilian.

問服務生可否換個正常有品一點的橄欖或花生?服務生簡單的一句「我會幫您跟師父建議」就將我打發,我馬丁尼本來就附的橄欖多來一顆的請求也被婉拒。

Snacks that comes with drinks are the same both times we visit: deep-fried pasta and some meh crackers. I ask why not serve something normal like olives or peanuts? The server brushes me off with a simple, “I’ll send your advice.” My request for an extra olive with my Martini “with olives” is also denied.

飲品選擇雖然多,配上一系列的下酒菜跟幾道中西式正餐,但乏味的「凱撒沙拉」卻是Woobar菜單上唯一的沙拉選擇。 但這對標榜為5星級的酒店似乎不合理,所以殘編對服務生提出合理的質疑。

English Version/ 英文版:
The options for alcoholic Beverages are vast at Woobar, along with with a selection of munchies to go with them and a few Chinese & Western meal options. However, boring Caeser is the only salad option at Woobar. Somehow, that doesn’t seem right to me for such a hotel that brands itself 5-star, so I question our server.

果然有問有機會,服務小生為我們掏出隱藏版的秘密菜單,ㄧ問之下,才知道原來是從旁邊西餐廳W Kitchen偷來的,這個菜單理就包括充滿蛋白質的「加洲風味雞肉科布沙拉」($ 450)。其中使用番茄、藍起司、培根,水煮蛋作為配料,並用美式餐廳常見的白色牧場沙拉醬為醬料。
服務生隨及端上ㄧ籃廚師單純用水、麵粉跟酵母每日現烤現做的圓型麵包,麵包中並無添加餡料,單純灑上一些義大利香料做提味。

“If you don’t ask, you don’t get.” He brings us a secret menu stolen from the adjacent restaurant, W Kitchen. This menu features the protein-packed “California chicken Cobb Salad” ($450NT), which uses tomato, blue cheese, bacon, hard-boiled egg as toppings, dressed with ranch.

這道吐司三重奏包含了「松露蟹肉沙拉鮭魚卵」、「帕瑪火腿搭香烤無花果」及「鮮蝦搭魚子蛋黃醬」三種口味,雖然現做的雖要等15到20分鐘,但搭出來的每ㄧ道都是絕配。

English Version/ 英文版:

The “Open-Faced Toast Trio” ($475NT) includes “Truffle Crab Salad with Salmon Eggs,” “Aged prosciutto and grilled fig,” and “prawn and tobiko caviar aioli” 3 flavours. Food is made to order and takes 15 to 20 minutes to prepare, all combinations are perfect.

  • 「帕瑪火腿搭香烤無花果」 / “Aged prosciutto and grilled fig”:

「帕瑪火腿搭香烤無花果」除了在麵包上擺上帕瑪火腿跟烤香的無花果外,還灑上一層刨絲的起司跟香料跟濃稠的巴薩米克醋,讓口味更加豐富,每一口咬下去都有不一樣的層次感與口味,吃到這個在意大利常見的組合就會很想來一去杯意大利每餐必配的經典開味調酒「Aperol Spritz」(懂的就懂)。於是隨機點一杯來解饞。有點讓我小驚訝的是這個標榜五星級的旅館竟然也會偷工減料,此調酒為義大利的國民飲料,殘編赴義求學時大家餐餐都喝,所以當Woobar吧台把香檳/氣泡酒的成分用「氣泡水」來代替時,我立刻就喝出來了。(切!沒想到奢華飯店也會來這招呼弄?

In addition to prosciutto and fig, the “Aged prosciutto and grilled fig” toast is topped with shaved cheese, spices, and thick balsamic vinegar for more flavours. Each bite has a different texture and taste. The combination of prosciutto with bruschetta is classic in Italy. Now there’s one thing missing: the classic Aperol Spritz, a mandatory for every meal in Italy. So I order a glass to quench my thirst and bring back memories while studying my master’s in Milan. What disappoints me is this “5-star luxury hotel” serves me a Spritz with sparkling water subbing the prosecco. But no one cheats me when it comes to food. I have honed taste buds of a Michelin critic. So I tell them to cut the “crab” and bring me a real Spritz. What do you expect from a 5 a-star hotel?

  • 「鮮蝦搭魚子蛋黃醬」/ “prawn and tobiko caviar aioli”:

奶油餐包中間夾滿馬鈴薯和蛋黃醬後灑上滿滿的蝦卵,蝦卵呈鮮橘色,這道比較潤滑的搭配,應該是台灣吃奶油麵包的習慣

Butter bun is filled with potato and mixed with egg mayonnaise and an abundance of tobiko. This creamier mix is popular for Taiwanese’s butter bread culture.

  • 「松露蟹肉沙拉鮭魚卵」/ “Truffle Crab Salad with Salmon Eggs”:

這道小點可沒在呼嚨了,碳烤麵包片上的肥美蟹肉真材實料,並不是火鍋料常出現的假蟹肉棒出來招搖撞騙,蟹肉與米美乃滋翻雲覆雨一番後,生出來的竟是上面灑滿的肥大鮮甜的鮭魚卵,美乃滋上似乎有一點黑松露的影子,但是味道不顯著,鮭魚卵是殘編的菜,因為我喜歡它們帶來在我嘴裡「啵!啵!啵!」的鹹濕口爆快感!ㄧ口咬下「爽~快~啦!」我不禁驚呼!中間夾著些許小黃瓜絲,是想在獸性大發後裝清純嗎?

This one doesn’t cheat, real crab meat is generously served on bruschetta, and it’s no hot-pot “crap” crab. After smashing, mayo and crabs gives birth to big fat salmon roes on top. There’s a trace of black truffle on the mayo if you look close enough, but the taste is not significant. Salmon roe is my cup of tea. Because I like how the “cherries” pop in my mouth. It gives me the big “O” always.” I can’t help but moan when they burst. The “angelic-looking cucumber slices confuses me, didn’t I just pop your cherry?

  • California Chicken Cobb salad / 「加州風味雞肉科布沙拉」:

如殘編上面述說的,每家常見的「科布沙拉」事不僅有雞肉,還有蛋、起司、培根等等蛋白質豐富的超級沙拉。

Like I’ve mentioned above, this protein-packed “California chicken Cobb Salad” ($450NT),is the common “cobb salad seen acrosss Noeth America and includes blue cheese, bacon, hard-boiled egg and chicken.

  • WOOBAR牛肉麵 / Beef Noodle Soup at WOOBAR

雖然中醫說的「飯前喝碗湯、暖胃又健康」但在溼冷的冬天,外食飯後來碗湯,才能為離場時暖身做準備,好上「陰屍路」(咦?)。殘編本是陳年死屍。於是喜歡飯後為我的「陰屍路」做準備。飯後來碗湯,會帶給我比甜點更大的滿足感。

English Version/ 英文版:
Chinese medicine believes in drinking soup before a meal to warm your stomach up, which supposedly is healthier.” But as a 3-year corpse, I believe in warming up my body before leaving the restaurant to prepare for my “walking dead” journey back home in the winter. Soup can be more satisfying than dessert during the winter season.

帶有伯爵香氣的Earthbound 加入苦精提味後,上面擺上的一片柑橘乾不僅添加更多香氣,也及做最後美麗裝飾,有畫龍點睛的效果。

English Version / 英文版:
this gin-based concoction is infused with Earl Grey tea, adding bitters and garnished with a piece of dried citrus while also adding citrus flavors to it. The drink is on a stronger and aromatic side and is less sweet.

  • Sazerac Age Nouvel ($420NT):

Sazerac Age Nouvel馬爹利NCF干邑白蘭地 ( “Martell NCF”)、保樂( 「Pernod」)茴香味利口酒 、Springbank及雲頂威士忌 10年調出。

English Version / 英文版:
Sazerac Age Nouvel is prepared with Martell NCF, Pernod anise-flavored liqueur, spring bank whiskey 10 years, and orange bitters.

  • 三寶牛肉麵 ($625)/ “Formosa Niu Rou Mien” (Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup) ($625NT):

Woobar牛肉湯(麵)四神湯及「蔬菜湯」,在奢華飯店菜單上看見「牛肉麵」,喚醒了我帶來台觀光的加拿大友人所去「晶華酒店」所嚐的「冠軍牛肉麵」。實至名歸的牛肉麵讓我藕斷絲連、念念不忘,於是點了碗Woobar的牛肉麵,看看他們是否有的匹敵,找回當初良心還在的好朋友將剛殘障的我護送回台的溫暖。

Soup options available onWoobars menu include beef soup (with or without noodles), Chinese herbs soup (Si Shen soup), and vegetable soup. Seeing beef noodles soup on a luxury hotel’s restaurant menu is lit. It brings back the memories of the good old times: A good friend and escorted me to Taiwan in a wheelchair after my stroke from Toronto. I took him to Regent Hotel Taipei for its award-winning “champion beef noodles.” The title was well deserved. I haven’t had any other better beef noodle soup since. I order a bowl of Woobar’s beef noodles to see if it matches up, also in hopes of bringing back the heart-warming memories.

  • 三寶牛肉麵 ($625)/ “Formosa Niu Rou Mien” (Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup) ($625NT):

外表看似差不多的牛肉麵,除了一樣有青江菜搭配、還多了一色:紅蘿蔔。牛肉比晶華酒店厚、筋膜讓肉塊咬下去更有嚼勁。除翼板牛肉塊,碗中還加了涮牛肉片跟牛腱,所有喜好ㄧ次滿足。記得晶華酒店冠軍牛肉麵的麵條是另外擺。W Hotel的麵條上桌時雖已入碗,但殘編的小助理大快朵頤飲時,還是禁不住地「ㄙㄨ、ㄙㄨ、ㄙㄨ」的吸,這吸一口、麵條長到殘編看他吸到快斷氣還不肯放棄,跟吃拉麵ㄧ樣爽快。

WOOBAR’s beef noodle soup looks similar to Regent Taipei’s at first sight. Besides the same bok choy, W Hotel‘s beef noodle soup comes with an additional veggie colour: carrots. Beef is thicker than the Regent Hotel, and the fascia makes the meat chewier. In addition to the beef blade chunks, thin hot-pot style beef slices and thin slices of beef shanks are also added to the bowl, satisfying all you beef cravings. Champion Beef Noodles at Regent Taipei served their noodles separately, whereas W Hotel‘s are served everything already in the bowl. Noodles are long enough to almost choke my assistant of the day when he takes his first slurp. But the scene of him risking his life, refusing to break the noodle with his teeth and his “Ramen slurping sound,” tells me this must be damn good.

  • 原來不只人會累,做苦工的牛更累。對口味吃比較清淡的殘編來說,

Woobar牛肉麵稍嫌鹹,當初窩心的那一碗湯也跟著人性的熱情ㄧ樣稍縱即逝。。。

I guess not only human beings get tired, but hard-working cattles also get exhausted. Woobar’s beef noodle soup is a bit too heavy for me. And like the heart-warming feeling that was once there, the same experience fades away…
