Front Street Foods – Summer Food Market for Foodies in Toronto

Front Street Foods is back for the second year offering Torontonians innovative dishes right in the downtown core. The pop up market, now located on the second-floor terrace of the Adelaide Place (150, York Street, on the corner of York and Adelaide Street West), is running weekdays from June 13 – August 5, 2016. The market features a unique mix of food and drinks vendors offering a wide variety of cuisines to try during the busy workdays or after work hours.

Craving fish and seafood? Try Fish’d by Edo (creator of the sushi burrito), Little Fin, Jake’s Lobster and The Merchant oysters. Sweet tooth? There are The Rollin Pin for their specialty doughnuts, Chimney Stax for their vegan dough rolls filled with yogurt and Ice Cream Rolls for their Thai rolled ice cream (one of the hottest desserts on Instagram). And if meat is what you want, “Canadian Breakfast Bar” by Bacon Nation, Brock Sandwich, Holy Chuck, Toben By Design and Kaboom Chicken all have great offerings. For coffees, there are Railroad Coffee Co. and Station Cold Brew. If craving Latin American then Tacos 101 and La Fiesta will satisfy that need. On the healthier side is Fresh Restaurants (Fresh Since 1999)’s juice cleanses and The Mighty Cob. Some of the others are: Fred’s Bread, Raclette Suisse and Hot Bunzz.

Fortunately, we came hungry because there was so much to sample. Fish’d by Edo has a to-die-for spicy salmon poke. We loved Hot Bunzz‘s pharaoh’s falafel bun and the sexy surf & turf (lobster on top of a bun with braised beef inside). Little Fin‘s fish tacos were quite delicious. The Mighty Cobb‘s savoury hot creamsicle (seasoned corn on the cob) had a great kick to it. The Rolling Pin‘s chocolate toasted coconut and peanut butter and jam doughnuts were super addictive.

Fred’s Bread skinny sammies (roasted vegetable on cheddar olive bread), pizzas and their out-of-this-world chocolate brioche made us quite happy. Toben Food by Design offered their tasty sliders and scrumptious three cheese southern mac and cheese with bbq brisket. La Fiesta‘s paella was quite flavourful. Brock Sandwich‘s pulled pork sandwich and crispy buttermilk chicken burger were amazing, and we got to try their vegetarian option of jackfruit, which tasted a lot like pulled pork.

Jake’s Lobster‘s classic Maine style lobster roll made us wanting seconds. Raclette Suisse sampled their broiled Aussie Raclette cheese (melted on the spot) over garlic fried potatoes accompanied by sausage and kale with chili vinaigrette, and it was as good as it looked. Holy Chuck‘s namesake burger (two aged beef patties, double cheese, maple smoked bacon and caramelized onions) was the tastiest we’ve ever had. Chimney Stax‘s crazy for caramel had vanilla fro-yo, caramel turtles and salted caramel sauce taking us to sugar heaven. It was fun watching the Thai ice cream rolls being made at Ice Cream Rolls.

Front Street Foods is an oasis in downtown where one can grab lunch or a snack, dine under the sun, and watch the hustle and bustle of downtown Toronto happen around you.
