LG G6 Launch in Toronto-Smartphone Review

The new LG G6 smartphone was released in Canada, and LG threw a massive launch party #LGG6ix at the Berkeley Church event space.
All guests had the chance to borrow the LG G6 smartphone for the evening.

We tested out the phone and saw for ourselves all the amazing features. All photos for this article were taken using the LG G6.

The phone felt quite light and was easy to hold in one’s hand. The large 5.7-inch Full Vision Display (which is an increase from the 5.3″ display on the G5) means more screen on the phone.
The display has 18:9 aspect ratio while most other smartphones have 16:9 aspect ratio.

It is sculpted from aluminum and glass and has rounded corners. It has Dolby Vision which adds dramatic colour, contrast, and brightness to images. Quad HD+ resolution provides optimum picture quality.

The phone has outstanding abilities when taking photos. The wide angle front camera makes taking selfies easy since it automatically snaps a photo when a face is in frame or using a quick gesture. No more need to push a button.

The dual 13MP rear camera with its 125-degree angle makes it simple to capture panoramic shots that other phones can’t.

With the square camera, there are four cool modes. The snapshot means one can take a photo and preview it; the guide shot allows one to use a simple overlay to create a good composition, grid shot means one can create 2×2 grids of photos and videos and the match shot allows the combining of two photos.

The LG G6 has an IP68 rating so it is sealed against dust and can be put into water for up to 30 minutes. No more worrying about water damage.

The phone also has voice activated Google Assistant built in to provide help when needed.

The evening was emceed by Scott Willats (former MuchMusic VJ and now Toronto Maple Leafs host) who kept the evening flowing. There was so much to see and enjoy throughout the night. There were giveaways of LG Electronics products, and we were eager for the grand prize of the LG G6 phones. There were beautiful backdrops to take selfies and a selfie print cookie station.

We were entertained by bartending juggling and fire eating, a magician doing card tricks and by the DJ who kept the tunes going.

There were various food stations serving scrumptious food including raw cookie dough (double chocolate, gingersnap, and regular) with assorted toppings in a waffle cup, bao sandwiches, tofu and shrimp stirfry, the multi-coloured donut wall, mac cheese, forest mushrooms, broccoli, and soft shell tacos with grilled pork and snapper.

The specialty drinks of the night were Gin6 Fizz (gin, grapefruit juice, simple syrup and club soda), LG & T (vodka, blood orange juice, orange bitters, and tonic water) and Dual-Camera Collins (made with Rose’s blueberry cordial, gin, Rose’s lime cordial, and club soda).

The big surprise of the night was the mystery band. Guests were encouraged to guess the name of the band with hints all around the venue, and the winner received an LG G6 phone.

Later in the evening, the mystery band was revealed to be Dragonette. They played their hit songs and had the crowd up on their feet. Dragonette brought this magical night to a close.
