The Carlu in Toronto was transformed into Twentieth Century Paris for La Belle Époque Gala 2018 , a lavish fundraiser for Canada’s National Ballet School on March 1, 2018. About 600 supporters of this world-class training institution turned up to taste passed hors-d’oeuvres of steak tartar on toast, mini quiche, polenta fries, and goat cheese with mushrooms on a crostini which paired well with either white or red wine.

A snack and cheese table with assorted cold meats and cheeses, spreads, dips, and bread was located in the centre of the welcome reception room amongst the white and rose décor of this Parisian themed event. The evening featured a spectacular three-course dinner by Oliver & Bonacini; roasted chestnut and truffle soup, duck confit with lentils du puy or white bean and chickpea cassoulet, and tarte au citron. To celebrate the “beautiful age” as well as the success of the ballet, an exceptional performance took place on the stage after dinner introduced by the co-chairs Amanda and John Baker, Nini Krishnappa and Andrea Stairs. If you still didn’t have enough to eat or drink, a lounge with entertainment was set up in an adjacent room featuring Kir Royal cocktails. Funds from the La Belle Époque Gala help ensure that no talented student is prevented from attending the National Ballet School due to financial circumstances.
