Nine West Fall 2016 Collection Preview
Nine West Canada held its Fall 2016 Preview and Fashion Show at Airstrip 37 located in Toronto’s Distillery District. The evening began with attendees eagerly awaiting the fashion show to start in their seats. There was a “mountain” of assorted shoes in the middle of the runway, which was unusual to see at fashion previews, but soon it all became clear.
There are over twenty billion shoes produced annually with over 300 million pairs discarded and ending up in landfills. Shoes contain ethylene vinyl acetate, a material usually found in the midsole of running shoes, and it can take up to one thousand years for it to decompose. Since 2010, Nine West Canada has partnered with the charity organization, Shoe Bank Canada, to decrease the environmental footprint and help those who are less fortunate through donations of gently worn footwear and bags to Canadians in need. Nine West Canada and Shoe Bank Canada believe that “no Canadian should want for a decent pair of shoes.” This fall, the goal is to create the biggest “mountain of shoes” to donate across Canada.
The fashion show was fast-paced and showcased so many exciting looks in shoes and handbags for Fall 2016.
There are five themes for this season’s collection:
The Highland Hike has earthy tones in dark brown, and a feeling of coziness. There are suede, fur and plaid accents. All pieces are perfect for enjoying the fall season.
Sartorial Sport features street-style sneakers with metallic gold, black, leather, velvet and wool.
Material Girl is a tribute to the golden era of the 1980’s. It is all about glitter, metallic mirror finishes, brocades, velvets and fringes. Dark purples and greens are seen in sexy skinny heels.
Man Up has a masculine edge combined with a hint of glam, which can be seen in the loafers, lug soles and leathers. The line is ideal for wearing at the office.
Mad for Mod is a tribute to the swinging 60’s past with patents, gold buckles, Mary Janes, and rounded toes. The burgundy “go-go” style boots with it’s matching clutch are a fun combination.
