食記(時尚高潮)台中法義風味人文古堡餐廳:誤打誤撞的一場異國豔遇

殘編腦殘烏龍事件ㄧ樁接一樁。上次開了六個小時去錯的「雙心石滬」,是一場小小的失望;這次的誤打誤撞,卻是一場美麗的異國豔遇。殘編一聽說台中有建在古堡裡的餐廳時,當然是二話不說,立馬揪人上路。赴約的友人說他十年前去過一次,我不禁感覺羞愧,熱愛旅行又愛吃的我,怎麼現在才知道有這個地方?訂位後,我們3:40從台北景美出發。

My malfunctioning brains have caused me many unnecessary troubles and mistakes in life, including my 6-Hour Road Trip to Hualien. However, some mistakes are terrible, some turn out to be beautiful. My Trip to People Cafe (aka Black Castle Restaurant) in Taichung turns out to be one of the few beautiful ones.
When I learn about a restaurant in a castle in Taiwan, i leave Taipei for it immediately with no further questions asked. Joining me is my friend W, who had been there once about ten years ago. We depart Taipei Jingmei at 3:40, arrive in Taichung at about 5:30.

快到台中時,友人說方向似乎不對,與記憶中不一樣,於是我撥電話去店家確認。原來友人指的是台中最近開始有名氣的景點:新社古堡,我心中雖然也想著它,卻預約到了台中西區的「法義風味人文古堡餐廳」(又名「黑色古堡餐廳」)。

Halfway there, W tells me we’re heading the wrong way, so I call and check with the restaurant. We are both thinking about Taichung’s renowned tourist attraction: Xinshe Castle, I somehow made a reservation for People Cafe (aka Black Castle Restaurant). Oops, I did it again.
孰知經過接電話的服務人員澄清、真相大白後,固執的我正想:「絕不走回頭路」時,對方的一句「我們有25年的歷史,比新社多上十幾年」給了我一個不回頭的正當理由。

English:
Before disappointment takes over, the lady on the other side tells me their restaurant has about 10-15 years more history than Xinshe Castle. Sold. One of my principles is never to look back in life, anyway.
法義風味人文古堡餐廳的外型是一座黑色古堡,因此又名「黑色古堡」。餐廳內燈光昏暗,靠窗的座位有一排高雅的紅色紗發座,座位下方有插座(大加分!)
對面的牆上掛著ㄧ些貌似毆洲的畫以及一面威尼斯嘉年華會的神秘面具,我猜想老闆去過歐洲。

English:
The exterior of People Cafe is a black castle (hence known as the “Black Castle Restaurant “). The lighting is dim, but the sun shines into the windows and creates a captivating feeling when reflected on the window side red couches. The wall across us are filled with European paintings and a Venetian mask. My guess is the owner’s been to Europe. There are outlets under the window-side seats (a huge plus!).
我們用餐時雖無其他客人,菜單卻厚到讓連果斷的我都優柔寡斷,不知所措。
這兒的氣氛適合約會,如果我是在追女生還能假裝包場。餐點都採套餐制,菜單第一頁就是「王子公主雙人共舞鮮味餐」:雙人份的浪漫鮮活龍蝦海鮮大餐。服務生說他們店內龍蝦的價錢十二年來未曾調漲過,可惜我已無法跳舞,王子也因此而跑走了。既然我的生命已經沒有白馬,年紀也已不適合妄想王子,我們就決定點「貴族王妃隨選組合套餐」的項目:原來我還是比較適合當王妃啊!#NotComplaining (沒有怨言)。

Although we are the only table dining for the night, there is no shortage of food options.
Menu items are all in sets, the first page is the “Dancing”set-menu for the “Prince and Princess,” which includes a lobster feast for two. Our server tells us they haven’t raised their lobster price for over twelve years. I can no longer dance anyway, and Prince Pinokio has left me since, so I order the “Noble Queen” set menu instead. I guess I’m more of a Queen than a Princess (#NotComplaining)

法式煎烤薄荷小羔羊」聽起來就跟我一樣迷惘,「菲力牛排」和「海大蝦」聽起來也很誘人,但這餐廳的招牌是「脆皮酸菜豬腳搭黃芥末醬」($799),正好幫已被厚重菜單五花八門的菜色迷惑的我做了個選擇。當天主廚推薦的開胃菜有「法式焗烤田螺」($219)和「烤鮑魚」(時價),兩者皆是我的最愛,因此我們當然是照以往作風,通通都來。為了補足菜色缺少的綠色蔬菜,我還點了「義式凱薩沙拉」($189)搭配「煙燻鴨胸肉」(+$99)。

The menu offers a wide variety of items including pan-fried lamb chops, steaks, seafood and more. The server recommends their signature: “Roasted Pig Knuckle with Mustard” ( Schweinshax)just when I’m about to get indecisive, so that’s what I order. Other daily recommendations include Escargot and Abalone, both sound delicious so I do my usual #ordereverything).

to compensate for the lack of veggies, I order a Caesar Salad with smoked duck breast meat. 

 

套餐都附佐餐酒ㄧ小杯、風味湯、麵包、沙拉以及咖啡、查獲果汁飲料。
套餐所附湯品可選「清湯」或「濃湯」,
我們當天附的「清湯」是蕃茄羅宋湯。沙拉約一口量,還好我們有另外加點一份。德國豬腳準備時間本來就比較長,還好前菜烤田螺和烤鮑魚不到十分鐘就上菜,本是幫助咱們熬過漫長的等待時間,我們卻不到兩三分鍾嗑光光。內有蘿勒葉的麵包,來不及沾到田螺汁就早以不見蹤影。為了補足菜色缺少的綠色蔬菜,我還點了「義式凱薩沙拉」($189)搭配「煙燻鴨胸肉」(+$99)。

跟一般的焗烤田螺一樣,共六顆。有些人喜歡配麵包吃,田螺跑得慢,逃不了餓死鬼的快嘴,在麵包上桌前就被幹掉。

我第一次吃到鴨肉沙拉時是在比利時路邊隨意的一家咖啡店,跟這份餐點頗為相似。鴨肉比一搬台灣沙拉所附的鴨肉片稍厚,吃起來有份量,肉煙燻的也夠味。

「貴族王妃隨選組合套餐」內容:Set menu items:

餐前麵包是義大利常見的 Focaccia(佛卡夏麵包)中間有亞麻仁提味,也是少數會讓殘編想動手拿的麵包。
起司火腿蔓越莓果乾沙拉(請見上面影片)

這道套餐附的沙拉,名字雖然花俏,還附有煙燻、辣為兩種風味讀起司,量卻僅有兩口大小,還好我另外點了沙拉。

  • 招牌脆皮酸菜豬腳搭黃芥末醬 ($799)

一般德國豬腳需現煮再烤,準備起來本來就比較耗時間,我們的豬腳約30分鐘上菜,還算合理。只能靠一隻手進食的殘編,一手拿叉子後就無法切肉,只好眼睜看著別人大快朵頤。友人看我淚水已經開始在眼眶內打轉後,說這個我可以,叫我試試看。殘編從小愛吃德國豬腳,但是不用刀子吃的德國豬腳我還是第一次吃到。不是不脆,而是當叉子叉進酥脆的皮後,裡面是燉得軟爛的肉。肉質鮮嫩多汁,甚至不用刀子,「一叉」下去,就骨肉分離,真的是英文所謂的 ”fall-off-the-bone”啊!殘編吃過各種豬腳,吸吮過各國豬蹄,還沒吃過這種的!這場誤闖台中法式風味人文古堡餐廳之旅有如我的人生,原來跌跌撞撞也能撞出異國的美好滋味啊!

Schweinshaxes usually require more time for preparation, ours was ready in thirty, acceptable. My mind screams “Bon appétit,” but my useless hand says “sorry, can’t do it :/

With 1 hand only to hold my fork, I’m unable to cut it with my other hand. I start tearing up as I witness the pig knuckle getting demolished. W notices and tells me I can do it! I try with my fork and I really CAN! The meat is literally fall-off-the-bone tender and can be eaten with a single fork! of all the schweinshaxes I’ve tried across the world, I haven’t had one ass accessible. People Cafe BLack Castle Restaurant in Taichung is a beautiful mistake.
