Silver Ball 2014 Celebrates Hollywood, Hope and Heroes for Providence Healthcare
Toronto’s longest running gala, the Silver Ball: a fundraiser for Providence Healthcare Foundation celebrated its twenty-first year at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel on November 8, 2014. This year’s theme was the “Celebration of Hollywood, Hope and Heroes…” Every guest of this fundraising event was treated to a grand red carpet entrance with paparazzi!
There were signature cocktails to match the Hollywood theme: the “Bogey”: Kraken dark rum with coke; the “Hollywood”: Ciroc Amaretto with apple cider; the “Red Carpet”: Finlandia Vodka, peach schnapps and cranberry, and of course the “Marilyn”: Three Olives Vodka, strawberry and soda.
A Hollywood reception wouldn’t be complete without Marilyn Monroe herself who I saw in the piano lounge!
Everyone enjoyed the wonderful passed canapés: lobster lollipops, short ribs, crab cakes and white truffle risotto cakes.
There was a large variety of silent auction items to bid on including a ninety inch Sharp TV, Coach handbags, and Swarovski crystal jewelry.
With a purchase of a $150 raffle ticket you had the opportunity to win the largest prize of the evening: a 2015 Lexus IS 250 Sport!
The dinner at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel was magnificent: seared salmon to start, Dijon crusted beef tenderloin as the main and a trio of chocolate, lemon and cheesecake to finish the meal.
Last year’s emcee Ken Shaw was only available on the big screen. Gord Martineau, a CityTV News anchor for over three decades, was live on stage in the ballroom. A few of the eight hundred guests at this year’s Silver Ball were actors from hit television shows “The Strain”, “Saving Hope”, and more. Opera singer Christopher Dallo and the U2 cover band “Elevation” were the night’s entertainment as well as a Bollywood style dance performance by Shireen Ali of Sanskrit Art Ensemble whose grandfather was a patient at Providence.
Providence Healthcare has been a leader in providing community based programs, rehabilitation, palliative care, long-term care and community since 1857. The three strategic areas of the “Hope Starts Here” campaign which receives funding from the Silver Ball are Transformation by Design, Palliative Care and Investing in our Future. This year over one million dollars was raised for Providence Healthcare and the “Hope Starts Here” campaign; clearly this celebration of Hollywood was a success!
