Silver Ball 2015 in Support of Providence Healthcare
On November 7th, an elite group of over 800 from the business, healthcare and arts industries gathered at Toronto’s prestigious Fairmont Royal York Hotel for the 22nd annual Silver Ball, in support of Providence Healthcare, a leader in providing long-term & palliative care, rehabilitation, and community programs.
This year’s event, sponsored by Scotiabank, was truly a night of Love & Laughter.

Smiles by a lady dressed in a pink champagne table greeted each one of us upon entrance.
Then we entered a hall of love, where paintings of hearts were displayed on the walls. Each piece of art is created by one of Providence Healthcare’s employees to show what Love & Laughter (the theme of the night) means to them. For the price of $100, guests can bring home a piece they love the most.
There was a piano lounge where we enjoyed “Love Potion” made with vodka, amaretto, peach schnapps, orange juice and cranberry juice. After having a few, we lined up at the LoL Photo Booth for some lol pictures.
For the third year, Lexus on the Park provided the grand prize for Silver Ball‘s raffle draw, a 2015 Lexus N/X200t F-Sport Series 1 (valued at over $58,000), which was brought home by lucky winner, Chris Walters.
The main room was filled with silent auction tables. With spectacular items such as the Crown Verity Outdoor Memorable Experience Package (valued at 5,000), the dinner and wine pairing package for 20 people at The Vintage Conservatory (valued at $5,000), the “Beer School” package that offers beer & gourmet food tasting for 40 people at the private John Labatt Hall (valued at $5,000), and the Toronto FC BMO box seats for 16 people (valued at 3,000), there is no surprise that the silent auction alone raised over $79,000 to support Providence Healthcare’s exceptional care department.
A lovely Cherry Blossom Gift Tree with an interactive station engaged guests to try out a state-of-the-art virtual reality equipment that helps rehabilitation patients regain mobility and strength. The station raised $4,400 to help purchase the equipment.
Emcee Ken Shaw introduced us to a touching love story of Anne McAndrew, former Providence Healthcare patient and her loving husband, Bob, who both made a special appearance.
Birds of Bellwoods then took over the stage while dinner was served.
Dinner at Silver Ball was scrumptious as always. Smoked maple Atlantic salmon was served on green pea and herb risotto as an appetizer, which was washed down with a Tai-Pinot Grigio IGT Veneto Capriano; followed by the main course, espresso crusted filet mignon, complemented by a Primitivo IGT Salento. The gourmet meal was finished with an amaretto cheesecake and a mini Canadian sugar tart with fresh berries and coffee.
Entertainment by Shawn Brady and Elevation, Providence Healthcare‘s very own Shawn Rumford (Human Resources/ Employee & Labour Relations Manager) and Rob Creamer continued late into the night.
Silver Ball 2015 raised an impressive $850,000, which will support Providence Healthcare’s Hope Starts Here campaign.
Our population is aging rapidly, leading us into an impending crisis. The number of Canadians over the age of 65 will double within the next 20 years and will become a huge threat to our healthcare system. The Hope Starts Here campaign aims to transform and spearhead an innovative model for future healthcare. With programs such as Transformation by Design that transforms hospital spaces that allow “rehab, everywhere,” Palliative Care, which creates new, home-like environment, the Hope Starts Here campaign will no doubt develop a more sustainable and better healthcare system for their patients.
