#SPIN4THE6: ROCKET RIDE 4 Toronto Rehab EVENT LAUNCH PARTY
#SPIN4THE6: ROCKET RIDE 4 REHAB PRE-EVENT LAUNCH PARTY
The Rocket Ride for Rehab launched this past week and began signing up teams to cycle for the Toronto Rehab Foundation. On October 14, at Nathan Phillips Square, this five-hour static cycling event aims to have over 1,000 participants trying to break the Guinness World Record for raising the most money at a static cycling event.
The stars of the Real Housewives of Toronto TV series and Joga founder, Jana Webb, will host the Rocket Ride with her Joga team. Tearfully at the launch, Webb publicly revealed for the first time suffering a near-fatal car accident in the Dominican Republic last November. She broke her back in three places and suffered a concussion, but has been recovering at Toronto Rehab which helps people “go back and live whatever their normal can be.”
Similarly, Dr. Howard Rocket vividly recalled playing touch football 22 years ago when he fell on the ground while reaching for a pass. That head injury led to a stroke three weeks later that paralyzed and blinded him. Thanks to Toronto Rehab, he regained his sight and movement, which he demonstrated at the launch by lifting his left arm, which used to be lifeless. He’s paid Toronto Rehab back by launching the Rocket Ride. This is the third year of the ride, and Dr. Rocket aims to beat last year’s total of $140,000 and break the world record doing it so that “people like me will get their life back.” He added, “I didn’t know how important my life was. Right now, I’m happy to focus my eyes in the morning…I don’t want any of you to take for granted when any of you open up your eyes in the morning. For the event, Rocket’s daughter Dana Rocket, co-founder of Rocket Cycle will be one of the instructors along with Rory Pederzolli.
The launch took place at the Lodge on Queen on Queen Street West where celebrity bartender Kevin Brauch provided mixed Rocket cocktails, and Fidel Gastros served tasty smoked salmon canapes, cheese platters, and morsels of fresh fried chicken.
Toronto Rehab is the world’s top rehabilitation research centre, and is the leading brain injury rehab program in Canada. It offers personalized care for serious injury and illness including stroke, heart disease, brain and spinal cord injuries.
