The Arnold Party hosted by the Business for the Arts (BftA) – Party in 20s Style

The elevator door opens up to the 7th floor at the Carlu and I enter the round room, the architecturally spectacular room in modern deco style, I am transported back to the 1920s New Orleans style. I am ready to celebrate the Business for the Arts awards in Toronto with bow ties, pearls and feathers.

The Arnold Party hosted by the BftA (Business for the Arts) was a celebration of volunteerism in the arts by Canada’s young professionals, and a night to honour the winner of the Arnold Edinborough Award. The Bfta supports artists, strengthens our cultural institutions, and improves our quality of life by encouraging strong relationships between business and the arts.  This year the Arnold Edinborough Award was presented to Stephen Delaney, the co-founder and current chair of CreatiVenture Collective. Stephen Delaney has contributed to the Toronto arts community in many ways. He is the chair of the board for Regent Park’s contemporary dance company – Coleman Lemieux & Compagnie, a committee member for AGO Next, and the co-chair of Canada’s National Ballet School‘s Gatsby Gala. He has invested many volunteer hours trying to make our society better through arts engagement and inspiring his peers to become actively involved in philanthropy and volunteerism. Well done Stephen, we are glad that you are helping keep the arts alive in Toronto, a much needed initiative, to make our city first class place to live.

The Arnold party was a nostalgic one for the Roaring era of 1920’s, a time to party New Orleans style. There were cocktails and whisky drinks flowing reminiscent of the time, Toronto Vocalist Saidah Baba Talibah singing with her soulful voice, plus a live art installation by Young Lions Music Club. The hor d’oeuvres and desserts were exquisite bursts of savory delights. I certainly left the evening wanted more of this 1920s festivities and satisfied that the arts are thriving in Toronto, thanks to the Arnold Edinborough Award and Business for the Arts.
