TIFF Boombox 2019 – Toronto’s best Halloween Bash during TIFF
TIFF Boombox 2019 was a fantastic event to experience on Halloween night. This year’s theme was Heroes vs. Villains, and throughout the floors of TIFF Bell Lightbox, people were dressed in costumes depicting their favourites.
Creative producer Kyle Kofsky (Everyoneisanartist.ca) and his team put together an exciting evening of installations, battles, entertainment and all-around fun, with funds going to support TIFF Lightbox‘s year-round programming.
In the Cove Cannabis area, there was information (and chocolate) along with a tarot card reading.
The battle portraits between photographers Jesus Maraz (heroes) vs Tara Noelle (villains) was quite intense. It was tough to decide who wanted to be photographed by as both are equally talented. So we got photos as both a hero and a villain.
The old game of Rock Paper Scissors (presented by Electric Perfume) was given a twist where you posed as a superhero while playing the game.
Runway Battle had competitors ( performers, heroes, and villains) killing it on the catwalk.
Dance Battle had dancers Kiki, Snoopy, Chantelle Maegan Mostacho, Esie Mensah, Percy Anane-Dwumfour, and Sze-Yang Ade-Lam doing an epic dance-off.
Battle for the City with Alice Cavanagh vs David Robert Leslie was the ultimate duel of power.
Comedy Battle had Toronto’s top comedians Leonard Chan, Sarah Ashby, Foad HP, Cathryn Naiker,Rush Kazi, and Rahil Shaikh attempt to take each other down (with tons of laughs).
DJ Battle featured a song for song competition between DJ Blackcat vs DJ Mr. Akil D. They both showed their table-turning skills.
Toronto drag superstars Devine Darlin, Sapphire, Jada Hudson, and Sofonda Cox fought it out in the Drag Battle.
Battle Illustrations with Mark Williams vs Joseph Bonsu, who transformed guests into a Lego or Gremlins character.
In the loading dock area, there was the Karaoke Battle with Good Enough Karaoke. It was very cool watching attendees take the stage and sing to a live band.
A performance from Cirque du Soleil Alegria was spectacular, and it was an excellent opportunity to see part of the show up close.
The Halloween costume contest brought a bevy of wonderfully dressed guests onto the stage.
Guests got to enjoy food from The Donnelly Group, Butter Chicken Roti, and delicious sweets from The Grand Order of Divine Sweets. There was a variety of drinks from Pommies Cider, The GOoDS, Nutrl Vodka, Lost Craft, Heretic Gin and Arterro Wines Canada,
