Tosto Quickfire Pizza Pasta Toronto New on Bay – Review

Torontonians love their pizza and pasta. When the chance to try out the menu of the new restaurant chain, Tosto Quickfire Pizza Pasta came about, we couldn’t wait to go.
There are several Tosto locations in GTA including Vaughan, Oakville, Leaside Richmond/Spadina, and the newest addition, Bay Street.

When we arrived at Tosto on Bay, we were warmly greeted by Michael Lublin, Brand Vice President for MTY Food Group (Tosto’s parent company) and by Tosto‘s interior designer, Christopher David.

The decor is bright and inviting, and we quite liked the open kitchen design. Chef Nicholas Wong created the exciting menu. The name “Tosto”, translated from Italian, means determined and prompt. And that’s exactly how fast the chefs in the kitchen can prepare the pizzas, which are made from Romano pizza dough. It was fun watching them create the masterpieces.
The pizzas are available in different sizes (single, share and group) and come in quite a few variations including
Margherita (tomato sauce, mozzarella, bocconcini, basil, garlic oil), Funghi Misti (mozzarella, button mushroom, béchamel sauce, button mushroom, cremini, pecorino, portobello, sun-dried tomato, rosemary, chive, white truffle oil), Umami ( béchamel sauce, mozzarella, pecorino, portobello, apple, red onion, caramelized onion, black olive, walnut, lemon zest and parsley) and Affumicata (tomato sauce, mozzarella , bacon, wild mushroom and green onion). The pizzas we tried were so tasty, and we loved the unique pizza toppings like walnuts and apple.

The pastas are made fresh daily and were also so good. Some of the choices are Pollo Gigli (pesto, grilled chicken breast, sauteed spinach, sun dried tomatoes, Grana Padano and lemon zest), Nero linguine (squid-ink , shrimp, sliced garlic, caper, basil leaf and salmon caviar), Aragosta linguine (lobster, roasted cherry tomato, caper, chili flake and parsley) and Polpette Spaghetti, (basil, garlic oil, Grana Padano, meatball, roasted cherry tomato, and tomato sauce).

There are also healthy salads on the menu like Caprese ( bocconcini, tomato, arugula, basil, citrus balsamic vinaigrette and balsamic glaze), Caesar (romaine lettuce, arugula, bacon, crouton, pecorino and Tosto Caesar dressing), and Mandarin Almond (romaine arugula, mandarin orange, and caramelized toasted almonds).

Of course, there are excellent antipasti options like Garlic Bread, Polpette (meatballs), Funghi Crostini, Calamari and Salumi ( a selection of cured meat and cheese with crostini).

Menu options can vary by location. At the Bay St. location, filling sandwiches like Meatball (meatballs, provolone and tomato sauce), Italian Deli (prosciutto, soppressata, pesto aioli, provolone, Roma tomato and arugula), Portobello (roasted portobello mushrooms, pecorino and arugula) and Salsiccia (Italian sausage, provolone and caramelized onion). They also have a weekend brunch menu with smoked salmon pizzetta, pandoro french toast, and spinach eggs benedict.

For dessert, we tasted the classic Italian cannoli, and we wanted to eat more than one.
There are some menu options for kids like butter pasta and cheese pizza which is great for families.
We left Tosto’s with feeling quite happy having truly enjoyed our authentic Italian meal.
