Xian Wang Fall/ Winter 2018 Collection – Vein at TOM* Toronto Men’s Fashion Week 2018
Montreal based menswear designer Xian Wang showed his latest Fall/Winter 2018 Collection entitled “Vein” at TOM* FW 2018. His first appearance at TOM* FW was in 2017. Under his eponymous label, XIAN, Wang has been acclaimed for his distinctive style.
The show opened with a fresh video giving us a teaser as to what was coming up on the runway. “Vein” pays tribute to 90’s glam rock and uses a mix of fabric and textures. His trademark colours of black, white, grey and red were also on display in this collection. Wang uses a lot of fur in the jackets and vests, which makes it practical for Canadian winters. Two pieces of the collection have been made from fur that has been upcycled. Wang has made sure that the fur is from ethical sources and that there is minimal waste involved in the use of the animal’s fur.
Leather is seen all over the line in his jackets and the fitted pants. The two-toned colour leather jackets that came in black and red or black and white were quite outstanding. We also loved the skull graphic shirt with black leather pants worn under the black fur coat, very sexy and fun.
Vein has been designed to appeal to men in their 30’s who want to make a statement, but it indeed has a universal appeal. His slogan is “G.W.T.X.(Go With The X)” (seen on his hoodies), “It’s About What We All Have in Common, in Our Veins” and “Youth Has No Age” (which is also embroidered on one of his bomber jackets), all reflect Wang‘s life attitudes. Jaycow Millinery provided the cutting edge hats that suited all of the pieces.
Xian Wang originally came from Harbin, China and moved to Canada to study fashion. He has a love for architecture, painting, and incorporates this into making bold statements in his clothing. His previous collections have appeared in British GQ and Italian Vogue. There’s no doubt that “Vein‘ will be a big hit internationally as well.
