Hosted by Sportsnet’s Jamie Campbell and Evanka Osmak, guests had a once in a lifetime opportunity to tour the new field before any of the MLB teams step onto the field. This sold out gala gave guests exclusive access to mix and mingle with the team. Blue Jays players, both current and former, and coaches joined guests to celebrate baseball for the great cause!

At the end of the night, one lucky guest won a 2016 Honda Civic in the Honda Home Run Draw.

Some of the attractions at the gala included: displays of baseball memorabilia and photo booths, where guests posed as baseball players in an animated sequence batting. They even received a digital copy of the sequence through social media and/or email. There was also a sporting goods store where guests could buy souvenirs and Toronto Blue Jays gear. At a few booths, you could play games or throw a baseball to see how many miles per hour you can throw. In attendance was a group of kids from Jays Care Foundation‘s Rookie League Program, all dressed in Blue Jays shirts.

Curve Ball Gala 2016’s guest speaker, Cyleta Gibson-Sealy, gave an inspirational speech about her work with the children from her community. She helped create a homework club which provided a structured and safe environment for kids to do their homework and learn lessons on leadership and morals. She has been providing school supplies and tutorship to the community for over ten years and has been the longest serving staff member of the Rookie League. The Jays Care Foundation inducted her and two Rookie Leaguers into the Rookie League Hall Of Fame.

Gourmet food, specialty cocktails, incredible raffle prizes, fantastic auction items, and exciting performances came together to deliver an unforgettable experience while pursuing a noble cause. Proceeds of The Curve Ball Gala will help toward multiple communities and charitable groups across Toronto, most notably the Jays Care Rookie League. This program helps marginalized children develop teamwork, cooperation, self-esteem, and other life skills through the game of baseball. The Rookie Program will be celebrating its 28th year of service to the community this year and has helped over 7,500 children in 137 communities by providing baseball equipment, clothing, and sustainable grants.

Curve Ball 2016‘s sponsors, Samsung, Cisco, Ericsson, Rogers, and Huawei, who made all of this possible, posed with the Toronto Blue Jays Players: Russell Martin, Marco Estrada, Josh Donaldson, Brett Cecil, and Kevin Pillar!

An incredible 1.24 million dollars was contributed over the weekend and it couldn’t have been done without the generosity of sponsors Samsung, Cisco, Huawei Technologies Ericsson, Rogers, LG, Hitron, Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP, HPE Canada Co., Facebook, Urbacon, Qualcomm Technologies, SunLife Financial, Aramark, Fasken Martineau, ZTE Canada Inc., Casa Systems Inc., Green for Life, Scotiabank, LinkedIn, Citibank, Private Air, WestJet, New Era, Honda, Sportsnet and TD.
