Luminato kicked off with a fundraising event called Big Bang Bash held at the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM). The gala featured the North American premiere of dolls by Viktor&Rolf, one of my favourite avant-garde fashion designers, I was thrilled to be one of the first to see them. The collection of fashion dolls was created exclusively for Luminato, it is the miniature of Viktor&Rolf’s actual designs. All dolls are impeccably made and presented on a mini catwalk which almost made me feel like watching a real Viktor&Rolf fashion show!
All dolls are made of porcelain with an attitude. Look at how fashionable they are, don’t you just adore them?
The event was inspired by Viktor&Rolf’s designs, there was a giant mannequin wearing a giant dress, leashing ROM’s giant Tyrannosaurus. Under the giant dress were three lovely volunteers waiting to surprise us with bracelets. There was an actual ”piano bar” serving cocktail specials, and 2 conveyor belts carrying indulgent cupcakes and polenta fries with short rib confits.
Martha Wash (singer of Black Box) performed for the night!
Dolls by Viktor&Rolf will remain on exhibit for free to the public until June 30, 2013, 10:00am – 5:30pm on Saturday – Thursday; 10:00am – 8:30pm on Fridays.
