Last night, Analogue Gallery celebrated the start of CONTACT Photography Festival with its “Women In Rock” exhibition.
It features over 50 unique images of legendary female singers and musicians taken by noted photographers including Toronto’s Patrick Harbron and Barrie Wentzell.
Lucia Graca, owner of Analogue Gallery and an accomplished photographer (her photos of Florence Welch and Bjork are quite wonderful), explained that “Women in Rock” took 5 years in the making and that the timing now is perfect.
Graca stated the female talent chosen all have made a strong impact in music and have had dynamic careers.
Among those featured are Debbie Harry, Madonna, Florence Welsh, Janis Joplin, Patti Smith, Nina Simone, Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald, Joni Mitchell, Bjork, Chrissie Hynde, Linda Ronstadt, Amy Winehouse, Grace Slick, Joan Baez, Yoko Ono, Stevie Nicks, Ann and Nancy Wilson, Salt N’ Pepa and Lauryn Hill.
It is fascinating to see some of the photos taken throughout a career, as in the various Madonna photographs starting from her early days of “Like A Virgin” era to “Blonde Ambition” to today.
Women in Rock runs until June 14.
