Cover Me Urban 2016 in Support of Youth Without Shelter (YWS)
On April 6th, 99 Sudbury was transformed into the streets of Toronto’s diverse neighbourhoods from Little India to Rexdale for Youth Without Shelter (YWS)’s third annual fundraiser, Cover Me Urban. The event, presented by Prospect Media and Youth Without Shelter and hosted by TSN’s Cabbie Richards, raised funds for the GTA’s only emergency shelter and residence for homeless youth.
Attendees explored the Cover Me Urban neighbourhoods savouring ‘street’ food and drinks from fifteen local favourites including delicious pizza from casual Italian restaurant Levetto. Other bites included a mouth-watering garlic arancini from TCI Highschool Chefs and amazing kale and tofu tacos from Queen West’s Mexican joint Fonda Lola.
Entertainment included an impressive silent auction with items ranging from shortbread cookies to Rihanna concert tickets, an airbrushed tattoo station, a fashion show, and a beatbox and stomp performance. Guests also lined up to snap some photos in a busy photo booth and to have their hands decorated with beautiful henna.
Over 300 attendees left with full stomachs and full hearts knowing they helped give back to our city’s youth.
Cover Me Urban 2016 raised an incredible $100,063 for Youth Without Shelter’s six empowering support programs for the 1000+ homeless youth who seek refuge at YWS.
