DECADENCE– the 10th Anniversary Party of the Carlu (scroll to the bottom for full gallery)
The evening of May 3, 2013 marked the unofficial start to Toronto’s summer party season with the ten-year anniversary bash of The Carlu. The venue, with over 1,500 guests in attendance, pulled out all the stops throwing its own celebration. Upon arrival guests were greeted by Swarovski adorned hostesses presenting goblets of sapphire gin and green tea. Four other signature drinks were also available at the bars throughout the space. One of the most interesting food offerings was a conveyor belt of pasta (reminiscent of 70’s sushi bars) bearing plates of beet gnocchi and rabbit tortellini in the Concert Hall. The live band in the Concert Hall played favorite cover music from the past decade and had everyone dancing below the disco ball! And, who could forget the men on pedestals; the saxophone and trumpet players stood up above the dance floor for their solos!
Deemed “the party of the decade” by guests, the “A” list of high profile social, corporate and cultural organizations enjoyed the seafood table in the purple lit Sky Room which was flanked by whole fish encased in ice ‘chandeliers’, serving a tuna crudo, and seared scallops. The meat station in the foyer exemplified the DECADENCE theme by showcasing steak tartar with a quail egg, veal bone marrow, and a cassoulet; a carnivores’ delight!
The entire event design; flowers, lighting, candles, table linens, etc. SPARKLED!!! Many of the women’s fashions worn at the event also glittered; there was an abundance of short, shimmery dresses, shoes and clutches.
The leap of faith that Mark Robert and Jeffry Roick took ten years ago in renovating the building, originally designed by the French Architect Jacques Carlu, certainly has paid off. The Carlu is now one of the city’s best event venues!
