What lady could resist the opportunity to wear her best ascot hat for an afternoon at the races? The seventh annual ‘Thrill of Ascot’ 2013 event was held at Woodbine racetrack on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. The event was sponsored by Audi Canada to benefit the non-profit organization Best Buddies. All guests were greeted by sparkling glasses of Veuve Clicquot.
Anthony Kennedy Shriver, nephew of John F. Kennedy, established Best Buddies with the mission to make every community more inclusive and to accept people with intellectual disabilities.
A beautiful selection of Royal ascot hats was available for sale for those who wanted to ‘upgrade’ (a woman can never have too many hats). Of course, hats also adorned each and every table covered by large, black and white striped table cloth. The event was designed by Sinclair Russell with assistance from the students of the Special Event Program at Seneca College.
The buffet served grilled swordfish, roast beef, as well as a selection of fresh vegetable dips, which were enjoyed while listening to a jazz quartet with vocalist Barbra Lica. MC Jaymz Bee introduced us to Sandy Hawley, one of the greatest race-riders ever produced in Canada with 6,500 wins! Honorary chair, Bernadette Morra, editor in chief of Fashion Magazine, looked stunning in a hot pink blazer and a fluffy fascinator.
‘Thrill of Ascot’ raised over $100,000 for Best Buddies. A wonderful day at the races indeed!
