The 16th annual Motionball Gala Toronto( Motionball 2017), with proceeds supporting the Special Olympics Canada Foundation(SOCF), was a huge success with 2600 guests attending and raised $250,000.
Since 2001, Motionball has raised $7.5 million, and this has assisted 40,000 Special Olympic Canada athletes with the funding of training, equipment, uniforms and tournament costs.
Held at the Liberty Grand, this year’s theme was “Old Hollywood” and guests even got to pose for photos with the famous Oscar statue awarded to Christopher Chapman.
It was a very busy evening with many performers onstage including; In Living Cover featuring CP24’s Jamie Gutfreund, Cellists Amber Walton and
Darya Zonooz, Violinist Dr. Draw, Lindsay Brohan Band, Sam Kogan, Hey DW!, Enzo Boldrini Duo, DJ DxB, DJ Dash, and DJ Wizdome. The headlining performer was Karl Wolf who performed the worldwide debut of his new single, “Wherever You Go.” He had the audience on their feet dancing and grooving to his songs. He brought out his special guest, Motion Idol’s Madison Tevlin who impressed the crowd with her talent.
There were complimentary drinks all night, specialty cocktail bars, VIP dessert bars with fondue and gourmet cookies, a Macaron selfie station (where your selfie was imprinted onto a delicious macaron) and a photo selfie booth. There was a silent auction with fabulous items and the raffle prize of a flight from Air Canada.
The evening was hosted by KISS 92.5‘s Devo Brown. Various celebrities who attended included the President of Special Olympics Canada Sharon Bollenbach, Carnival Eats’ host Noah Cappe, CP 24’s Nathan Downer, Patricia Jaggernauth, Bill Coulter, Gurdeep Ahluwalia, Pooja Handa, Travis Dhanraj and Arda Zakarian.
Special Olympics was founded in 1968 by Eunice Kennedy Shriver and started in Canada in 1969. Worldwide there are over 4.5 million athletes. Special Olympics Canada meets the needs of over 42,000 intellectually disabled with their 17 Olympic-style winter and summer sports programs.
Motionball Canada started in 2002 and has brought together volunteers and donors to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics Canada Foundation (SOCF). through its various events. In addition to the signature charity fundraiser, Motionball Gala, there are the Marathon of Sport and Fall Classic Golf Tournaments. These events are run in 12 cities across Canada. All of the proceeds go directly to SOCF(the Special Olympics Canada Foundation).
