Rogers Conn Smythe Sports Celebrities Dinner & Auction 2015 – Fairmont Royal York Hotel
With over 20,000 children and youth with physical disabilities in the province, families have been turning to Easter Seals Ontario for assistance since 1922.
Sixty-three years ago, a dedicated group took a special night and turned it into the Rogers Conn Smythe Sports Celebrities Dinner & Auction, benefiting Easter Seals. Easter Seals relies fully on the generosity of public donations to offer its programs and services. Rogers Conn Smythe Sports Celebrities gala, which took place at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel on February 18, 2015, has raised over $7 million for young adults with physical disabilities since its inception.
The reception before the dinner showcased many silent auction items: jewelry, artwork, and of course signed hockey sticks, whose sale price will go towards for the purchase of costly mobility equipment and communication devices as well as fully accessible summer camp and funding for other summer recreational programs.
The evenings host George Stroumboulopoulos, also host of Hockey Night in Canada, was on hand in the VIP Lounge. Other members of the head table included Curt Harnett who won 30 National Titles in cycling and brought home three Olympic Medals, Paul Henderson who scored the winning goal for Team Canada in 1972, and Michael (Pinball) Clemons, an icon of sporting excellence, community leadership, personal character and integrity. This year’s Provincial Easter Seals Ambassadors Kalea Davies, an energetic 11 year old from Etobicoke, and Tyler Preece, a 19 year old who is ready to graduate from high school soon, attended this important fundraising event, showing that the support from our sponsors and donors means so much to Easter Seals children and their families.
