Scotiabank Toronto held its Caribbean Carnival Gala – “An Evening to Discover” on July 27 at the Liberty Grand, where we experienced Caribbean culinary splendor, El Dorado Rum‘s signature cocktails, carnival music and arts. At the cocktail reception, we chatted with the TMBA (Toronto Mas Bands Association) designers and got a glimpse of all the incredible costumes that will be making their way down to the big parade at Lakeshore on August 4th 2012. Each band had their special theme such as Callaloo‘s Adventures of Sinbad and Tribal Knights‘ Candyland.
After the cocktail reception, we were ushered to the Governor’s Ballroom to enjoy a wonderful three – course dinner with live music and performances. The dinner menu started with a plate of refreshing papaya salad, followed by a duo of grilled New York Striploin steak with red curry glazed tiger shrimp, and finished with roasted banana & spiced chocolate panna cotta.
After the amazing food we headed back to the Artifacts Room for the After Party and danced our night away to upbeat Calypso/Soca.
The drinks we loved:
Georgetown Storm: 2 oz El Dorado 12 Year Old Rum, 1 oz Fresh Orange Juice, 1 oz lime juice, topped with Grace Ginger Beer.
Scotia Silver Splash: 2 oz El Dorado Silver 6 Yer Old Rum, 4 oz Grace Coconut Water, 1/2 oz lime juice
Watch Tracey Soman sing the national anthem at the gala:
