Canadian fashion icon Jeanne Beker hosted her 10th Annual Jeanne Beker & Friends Open Their Hearts & Closets charity sale on November 9th to support Gilda’s Club of Greater Toronto.

The beloved Canadian comedienne, Gilda Radner, passed away of ovarian cancer in 1989 and her charity provides welcoming space and emotional support for anyone suffering from cancer (A friend of mine recently succumbed to breast cancer).

Ms. Beker gathered donations from Toronto broadcasters such as Sandie Rinaldo of CTV National News and Bill Coulter of CP24 Breakfast as well as renown labels including Davids & Capezio, Franco Mirabelli, Greta Constantine, Hugo Boss, Tom’s Place and Town Shoes Limited.

For two hours this evening, fashionistas scoured the racks in search of designer deals, typically for 20-40% off the regular price.

The condition of the clothes was officially “gently used” and in reality, blouses, shoes, pants and suits were in fine shape, some feeling new.

It was a bargain hunter’s paradise, though (typically) with women’s fashion taking up more floor space than the men’s which occupied merely a corner of the third floor while the basement was jammed with women scouring the racks like locusts. A room on the ground floor offered jewelry.

Proceeds from the event went to support Gilda’s Club Greater Toronto.
