Mercedes-Benz Start Up Semi-Final Fashion Show
Mercedes-Benz Start Up held their semi-final show-Toronto/Thornhill edition at the Mercedes-Benz Thornhill dealership.
Mercedes-Benz Start Up (held also in Calgary, and Montreal) is a national program to discover and mentor Canadian designers who have been in business for five years or less.
It helps these designers get further exposure and nurtures their talent.
The winner of the semi-finals gets the opportunity to compete at World MasterCard Fashion Week in Oct 2015 in the hopes of becoming the national winner (the Awarded Designer).
Judges of the Mercedes Benz Start Up fashion shows include Robin Kay, president of the Fashion Design Council of Canada, JoAnne Caza, director of communications and PR at Mercedes-Benz Canada, Carolyn Quinn, director of IMG Fashion, Kara Chomistek, president of PARK, editors Caroline Gault, Jacquelyn Francis, and Caitlan Moneta of FASHION Magazine, and Olga Koel, fashion industry consultant.
Competing at the Thornhill semi-final were Beaufille (sisters Chloe and Parris Gordon), Narces (Nikki Wirthensohn), DALLA (previously HD Homme), Laura Siegel, and Matthew Gallagher.
Each collection had its own unique style. Beaufille showed soft fabrics, V-necks in white, grey and black in both dresses and tops with skirts. Narces was about lace and motifs with colours red, white, black and gold. Sexy lip prints were seen on cocktail dresses and gowns. Dalla had menswear using white, black, red fabrics and leather for jackets; all paired with black pants. Laura Siegel featured blanket coats, wool, fringe, gauze and tie-dye in the dresses and jackets. Matthew Gallagher was all about black and white elegance and glam, featuring pieces like white crop jacket with matching skirt, and a black gown that’s long in the back, short in the front with feather detailing.
The winning designers of Thornhill were sisters Chloe and Parris Gordon of Beaufille.
