Toronto was the third stop of the German Wine Fair Riesling & Co. World Tour, a wine tasting event at the Arcadian Loft on Tuesday evening, May 28, 2013. The majority of wines produced in Germany are Riesling; however, Rivaner, Silvaner, Grauburgunder (Pinot Gris) and Weissburgunder (Pinot Blanc) grapes are also grown in Germany and were proportionately represented. Twenty tables placed around the perimeter of the venue showcased Riesling wine and wine makers from the thirteen wine growing regions of Germany.
Wines were paired with delicious cuisine from Oliver & Bonacini; an antipasti table, a sushi station as well as appetizers with a German theme such as wiener schnitzel on a bun with purple sauerkraut and bratwurst on rye bread with grainy mustard.
The current German Wine queen, Julia Bertram; herself a wine maker, was on hand to promote the product by providing information on Germany, its wines as well as applying the namesake temporary tattoos! Produced in conjunction with the Consul General of Germany, the LCBO, Vintages as well as many other wine agencies, this tasting event was a marvelous refuge from this dreary spring evening in Toronto.
