We were one of the select media invited to tour part of Sherway Gardens‘ $500 million /210,000 square ft expansion. It was an offer we couldn’t refuse!
The expansion will be fully completed by 2017, with retailers Nordstrom (opening Spring 2017) and Saks (opening Spring 2016) already bringing a lot of excitement to the centre.
At the safety meeting, led by PCL Construction, we were briefed on what to expect and to avoid any potential hazards since we would be touring an active work site. We put on our hard hats, goggles and work boots and off we went to see the north expansion of the mall, which will be completed for September 2015.
Cadillac Fairview‘s Andy Traynor ,who has been with Cadillac Fairview for 15 years and prior to that at Eaton‘s (we remember Eaton’s), was our escort on the tour.
The changes for Sherway Gardens are enormous. New parking for 1200 cars is now available and further parking for 1100 spots is under way.
Along with Nordstrom and Saks stores, under construction are a new food court, three premium casual restaurants including JOEY, a new Harry Rosen store and a Sporting Life store, and 48 new stores.
We were quite impressed with the wall to ceiling windows will give tons of light at the new food court and the fact that JOEY Restaurant will have a rooftop heated patio (we love eating outside all year long).
After the tour, we took our hard hats off and dined at the construction site.
JOEY Restaurant catered the lunch and served us a sushi cone with shrimp and vegetables, their new enchilada dish, and scrumptious key lime pie. It was all delicious.
We are definitely looking forward to seeing the completion of the Sherway Gardens expansion!
