The ninth year of the Book Lover’s Ball in support of the Toronto Public Library Foundation took place at the Fairmont Royal York on February 6, 2014. The commitment to inform and inspire Toronto communities was generously supported by Sun Life Financial. Also critical to this fundraising event was the attendance of Canada’s leading authors such as Anthony de Sa, Andrew Pyper, Ania Szado, and more.
With over 500 guests at the Book Lovers Ball, it was easy to miss the literary talents themselves but a few were not afraid of the camera, Kevin O’Leary of Dragons Den and Linwood Barclay, a former Living columnist with the Star. The cocktail reception featured Royal York’s signature canapés including a skewer of peppers and beef, and a Caesar tomato soup. Champagne was an excellent starter to the evening!
The silent auction raised $25,000 with luxury vacations to Hawaii and Whistler and one of a kind literary experiences such as an evening with Giller nominated author Anthony de Sa at the restaurant EPIC. Adopt a branch was also a popular way to support the cause with $58,000 in funds including $25,000 from TD Bank Group. Money raised through the Book Lover’s Ball goes to the Toronto Public Library Foundation to help Toronto’s Library grow a city of readers, develop a city of learners and create a city of innovators.
