Dragon Ball 2018 in Support of Yee Hong Community Wellness Foundation took place on Saturday, February 10, 2018, at Toronto’s Metro Toronto Convention Centre. it was the twenty-ninth year of this annual fundraising gala, and one thousand two hundred guests attended to support the Yee Hong Community Wellness Foundation, an organization that offers many programs for seniors. Over thirty corporations and nine restaurants were sponsors for the fundraising dinner and reception this year. Island Oysters shucked fresh oysters and featured both east and west coast varieties. Traditional dumplings were being made by hand, cooked and served immediately at the end of the reception hall. Most people thought the Quanjude Peking Duck was worth the wait in line. The masters of Ceremonies for the evening were Cynthia Mulligan and Winston Sih of City TV who introduced all the dignitaries and sponsors on the stage including former Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion and Dr. Joseph Wong, Founder and Chair of the Yee Hong Community Wellness Foundation. The night’s entertainment started with the Chinese Collective Arts Association (CCAA) performing the “Rise of the Phoenix” dance depicting the unity of the Phoenix and the dragon (“yin and yang”). In honor of the Year of the Dog, Woofjocks and Roselle Doyel of Skate Canada took to the stage for an exceptional performance featuring live dogs doing expert tricks. Taking part in the dog tricks by Woofjocks as well as the traditional Chinese Dragon Dance was Wushu by Storm Performance Team martial arts athletes. Just before dinner, the Yee Hong Active Senior Mandarin Club whose members range in ages from sixty to eighty years old, performed. The dinner at the Dragon Ball started with an appetizer of Five Spice Smoked Salmon followed by Soup of Quail Egg, Mushroom, and Leek in a Chicken Broth and the entrée of Seared Beef Medallions and a Maple Glazed Duck Skewer, over Chinese Greens. Dragon Ball 2018 in Support of Yee Hong Community Wellness Foundation marked a great start to a fantastic Year of the Dog, 2018!
