We attended the preview for the 12th annual Come Up To My Room (CUTMR’15), which is running from Jan 15- Jan 25, 2015 at the artist-oriented Gladstone Hotel. The festival has 60 artists and designers who created unique artworks that must be seen to be believed.
Heading up to the second floor, we were warmly greeted by Gladstone Hotel President, Christina Zeidler, who invited us to go to all the floors of the hotel to fully experience the artists’ installations.
We were quite taken with the various exhibits, including: Fibre Optic/Radiant Light by Lizz Aston, Common Thread by Sander Freedman, Andrey Chernykh and Riyad Bacchus which displayed natural fibers, and In A Space curated by Carla Poirier, Jan Avendano, Rose Broadbent and other artists, which used the theme of black and white through the perspective of graphic design.
It was fun exploring all the individual hotel rooms, never knowing what surprises would be in store.
We chatted with talented interior designer Tommy Smythe (Cityline, HGTV) who also was quite enjoying all of the installations.
CUTMR culminates with the Love Design Party, hosted by Alexandra Mackenzie (aka Petra Glynt) on Jan 24.
