New Horror Film “Tarot” Explores Fate and Survival- Movie Review

Tarot is a new horror film that will take you on a scary ride while asking the provocative question, “Can one alter one’s fate?” Get ready for a terrifying ride with the new horror film “Tarot,” written and directed by Spenser Cohen and Anne Helberg. Based on the novel “Horoscope,” the film follows a group of friends whose weekend getaway turns deadly when they discover a cursed Tarot deck in the basement of their rented mansion.

The Cast and Characters

Written and directed by Spenser Cohen and Anne Helberg and based on the novel Horoscope, Tarot stars a talented cast. The talented cast includes:

• Harriet Slater as Haley
• Adain Bradley as Grant
• Avantika as Paige
• Wolfgang Novogratz as Lucas
• Humberly González as Madeline
• Larsen Thompson as Elise
• Olwen Fouéré as Alma
• Jacob Batalon as Paxton

A Weekend Turned Nightmare

The group of friends Haley, Grant, Paxton, Paige, Madeline, Lucas, and Elise rent an old mansion in the Catskills, New York, to celebrate Elise’s birthday. While exploring the basement of the mansion, they discover an old set of Tarot cards. Haley understands tarot (having used them when she was younger to give herself hope that her terminally ill  Mom wouldn’t die ).  She reads each of their Tarot cards, and each has a significant card.  Elise has The High Priestess, Lucas has The Hermit, Madeline has The Hanged Man, Paige has The Magician, Paxton has The Fool, Grant has The Devil and Haley has The Death card.

Back at campus, the friends slowly learn that each of their tarot cards has an evil intent, leading to violent deaths. Elise is the first to be murdered by The High Priestess, followed by Lucas, who meets The Hermit and is killed by a speeding train.

Hoping to stop the bloodshed, the remaining friends meet with Alma, an astrologist who has a deep understanding of the tarot cards. She confirms that the Tarot cards were owned by an 18th-century  astrologer who had lost her daughter at the hands of the Count. He had seen that her reading about the death of his wife and child came true. She cursed the deck so that anyone who tried to use it would be murdered.  Alma tells her friends that they must destroy this dangerous Tarot deck.

A Desperate Race Against Time

Haley, Grant, Paige, Madeline and Paxton rush to the mansion, but along the way, their car breaks down.  Madeline is killed by The Hanged Man while Paxton flees and heads back to their college. Unable to burn the cards at the mansion, Haley, Grant, and Paige get Alma to help.  Alma manages to connect with the astrologer’s spirit, who then kills Alma with the Six of Swords.
After Paige is murdered by The Magician and Grant is taken away by The Devil, Haley does a reading on the astrologer with the Death card. Haley finally processes the grief over her mother’s death, and the astrologer’s spirit, and the cards are finally burned.  In the end, the three remaining friends, Haley, Grant, and Paxton reunite.

A Haunting Survival Story

“Tarot” is a gripping horror film that keeps you on the edge of your seat, questioning fate and the power of belief. The film is a must-watch for horror fans and anyone who enjoys a suspenseful thriller. This film really draws one in to see if the friends can avoid their fate. It is very enjoyable and a definite must-watch.
