OPEN by Shopify launched Hangin’ Pictures On My Wall, an art installation and shoppable experience on Thursday, February 11, in celebration of NBA All-Star Weekend.
Local entrepreneurs, fashion merchants and social influencers came together in one unique space (former Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art/MOCCA) for an exclusive VIP Media Preview.
Hangin’ Pictures On My Wall, by Naskademini & OPEN, powered by Shopify, is a 90’s hip-hop retrospective featuring a curated art installation highlighting the era including black and white rare stills of rap phenoms from the golden era of hip-hop.
From rap icons The Notorious B.I.G. to Jay Z, the exhibit featured hip hop magazines and memorabilia that date back to the 1990’s – 00’s. Fusing together fashion, art, music, lifestyle and culture together inside four distinct spaces: gallery, lounge, bedroom and closet.
Guests were able to shop in real-time from Shopify streetwear merchants such as Community 54, Get Fresh, Zanerobe, ICNY, 47, Pintrill, and Snkrbox via Shopify ‘buy’ buttons on mobile/tablet devices onsite.
“Being able to give our customers a chance to hold and get a feel for our product is something we don’t always get to do since our shop is based online,” says Jordan Roschwalb, President & Co-Founder of PINTRILL. “Being able to participate in OPEN gives us that chance; it’s the main reason why we are so excited to be part of the shop.”
The three-day event also included panel talks and a Live Podcast by Naskademini and Marcus Troy, who interviewed special guests and talked about hip hop entrepreneurship and life online.
