With Father’s Day just around the corner, William Ashley presents us the best gift ideas with Royal Selangor‘s whole new Arcadia Collection – a sleek, beautiful new line of home accessory & tableware combining pewter and Kulim wood – a medium hardwood with natural luxurious dark colour.
This is the first time in history wood and pewter have been fused together. Who would’ve known how incredibly they complement each other?
On May 30th, we had the honour to attend the media preview breakfast for the iconic international pewter brand- Royal Selangor‘s new contemporary collection, Arcadia. Arcadia debuted exclusively at William Ashley on Bloor, where American designer Bob Borden personally attended and introduced us to the art and the making of his exclusive creations.
The design:
The new Arcadia collection features 2 unique design lines- Pure and Wave. Both designs display the beauty of simplicity with modern elegance. The Pure line celebrates the beauty of wood on its own while the Wave line adds a modern twist with 2 pewter wave lines running across the surface. Both lines are finished with Royal Selangor‘s signature pewter rims.
The making:
The Kulim wood is kiln dried and cut, each piece is meticulously assembled and hand staved. The motif is made by hand carving out the wood and pouring molten pewter in. The process is extremely difficult and requires great skills as the boiling pewter burns the wood. The product is then hand finished with precision to create a seamless marriage of the 2 materials. Food grade wax is also applied to bring out the natural dark colour Kulim wood.
The collection:
Products available from the Arcadia collection now include bowls and platters. The Arcadia bowls are available in 3 sizes, 6”, 9” and 12”. The platters are available in 12”, 16”, and 20”.
The brand not only focuses on design but also the functionality of the products. The platters can be used as candle trays and the soon-to-come Arcadia vase can also be used as a champagne cooler. I thought that the champagne cooler was really cool! Expect to see a slimmer version of this prototype by the end of the year!
To stay true to Royal Selangor’s belief of sustainability and low environmental impact, all products from the Arcadia collection are made from PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) wood to ensure materials are sourced from sustainably managed forests.
The Arcadia Collection will be sold exclusively at William Ashley for the next 3 months. It’ll be a great gift choice and a great idea to just get your hands on them before anyone else.
