The Block Party theme for the twelfth year’s Scrubs in the City event brought out Toronto’s movers and shakers, including Suzanne Rogers, in support of the new Peter Gilgan Centre for Research and Learning for Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), at the corner of Bay and Elm Streets. The Evergreen Brick works was the perfect venue, old walls were marked with graffiti and booths were named after major city streets emphasizing one of the best feature of Toronto-it’s neighbourhoods!
Delicious ‘street’ food included southern chicken and waffles, Korean short ribs and middle eastern wraps. The signature drink tasted like a cotton candy from the Ex!
Incredible auction items included purses by Alexander McQueen, Salvatore Ferragamo, and Marchesa.
The evening’s festivities were hosted by media personality Glenn Dixon, introducing special performances by Lil Jaxe, a 14-year old teenager who turns his stuttering into incredible raps; and SickKids patient Amanda Raya, a visually-impaired 14-year-old singer/songwriter. Later, DJ Danny Floh Back had the crowd rockin’ for the dance party! Dancing by a pair of Asian ‘dragons’, and hip hop by Sole Power had the crowd of 800 well dressed Torontonians enthralled!
The silent auction, raffle and event tickets raised over $400,000, bringing the total contribution from this fundraising event to the Hospital for Sick Children at over $2.5 million! Next year event is sure to be a showstopper too, mark June 12, 2014 in your calendar today!
