The Italian Contemporary Film Festival (ICFF), presented by IC Savings and in affiliation with Fare Cinema, announced the program for its 8th edition at Ritz-Carlton in Toronto on May 6th, 2019.
The ICFF is a showcase for contemporary Italian cinema from around the world. It’s also a festival that has become a positive avenue for co-productions and collaborations between American, Canadian and European filmmakers. Artistic Director and co-founder of ICFF, Cristiano de Florentiis, announced that this festival would be the most significant and finest festival thus far. The festival will have more participation by actors, producers and directors from Italy and will culminate with the celebration of two Oscar winners, Nicola Piovani and Nick Vallelonga. The ICFF will run from June 13th to 21st, 2019, and will take place simultaneously in Toronto, Vaughan, Hamilton, Niagara, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City and Vancouver.
ICFF 2019 will be presenting 128 movies in various categories ranging from films made in Italy, documentaries, and films with a Canadian focus, totaling more than 190 screenings across the country. Among the movies shown this year will be Dogman by Matteo Garrone (2018), which swept up several awards, including best picture at Italy’s 64th David di Donatello Awards. This is a movie about loyalty, revenge and the lengths to which one will go for redemption.
Also showing this year, Romulus and Remus: The First King (2019). Directed, written and produced by Matteo Rovere, he brings us a glimpse at the legendary founders of the eternal city of Rome, Romulus and Remus. The film, entirely in Latin (with English subtitles), is the epic account of the battle for power between the brothers and ultimately led to the birth of Rome. Nicola Piovani has collaborated with some of the most influential film directors in history, including Federico Fellini, Marcello Mastroianni and Roberto Benigni. Nicola Piovani will also perform at the TIFF Bell Lightbox in Toronto on Thursday, June 20th. The festival is also excited to include guest writer and producer, Nick Vallelonga, of the 2019 Academy Award-winning film for Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay, Green Book.
