The more than 1000 guests were greeted by electronic harpist M’Michelle, accompanied by her DJ, Alex Beaudoin-Tousignant, both from Montreal.
The reception featured a variety of antipasti – croquembouche filled with mascarpone and truffle oil, squid salad, ricotta stuffed figs, and a couple of fresh pasta and sauce stations. The signature drink was the ‘Venus’ made with Prosecco and pomegranate juice. The best of Italian cuisine was featured at the five course dinner. In between courses one could grab a drink at one of the bars at each end of the room and enjoy them at the adjacent lounges.
In keeping with the Italian theme, there were two large water fountains amongst the tables. The dance floor in the centre of the room had a large round lighting feature above. The stage in front of the dance floor came alive when Paul Anka performed. Although he has been entertaining crowds for over fifty years, it’s clear that he has not lost his touch! Men and women of every age were seen to sway and sing to his music and gave him two standing ovations.
A perfect end to the evening was the ten dessert station buffet catered by some of the best pastry chefs in the city which included cannoli and a variety of cakes and cookies. Alas at the end of the masquerade we were full of Italian food and drinks it was time to take off the mask and get back to reality….
