Anokhi Media 11th Anniversary Gala & Awards Show

Anokhi Media (founded by Raj Girn)  celebrated its 11th anniversary with a special night of celebration and awards at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre/Fountainblu. It was a night  that recognized the talents in the South Asian community who had made their mark this past year.  The cocktail reception before the awards was catered by the Host who provided samosas, falafel, and battered fish for the hungry guests.  Ciroc berry infused vodka lemonade was a nice complement to this. Fine Cakes by Zehra offered a multi-tiered black and gold celebration cake that was absolutely stunning. Johnnie Walker Experience had a VIP lounge for the talent.

Meher Pavri in stunning CTC West

The awards show opened with a powerful performance by opera singer Maher Pavri, followed by dance music singer Priya.CBC’s Anne-Marie Mediwake presented the media awards to  ET Canada’s Sangita Patel, Omni TV’s Raoul Juneja and Huffington Post Managing Editor, Jimmy Soni.

Ali Hassan got some laughs as he presented the comedy award to Superwoman.

ATN’s Amin Dhillon gave the  music awards  to DJ Fizza, Priya , Abbas Hasan and Culture Shock.  Abbas Hasan then sang  a few of his pop songs.

ET Canada’s Sangita Patel presented the film and tv awards to  Gabe Grey (Bomb Girls), Sakina Jaffrey (House of Cards) and Nazneen Contractor (Revenge).

Omni TV’s Veronica Chail handed the final award  to fashion designers Shantanu and Nikhil who also held their first ever  Canadian fashion show. Their clothes were opulent and gilded, and would be worn for any ball or gala.

Hip Hop group Culture Shock performed at the closing of the awards, keeping everyone pumped up for the after party.

Other notable attendees included Chef /TV host David Rocco, Matthew Wilson, Murdoch Mysteries, and Jennifer Singh from CP24.
