DAREarts Leadership Awards Gala 2015
DAREarts (Discipline, Action, Responsibility, Excellence) Foundation for Children, the only Canadian charity that uses all forms of arts to empower children in need and at risk, held its 13th Annual DAREarts Leadership Awards Gala and fundraiser at the Allstream Centre in Toronto.

CTV’s Marci Ien as MC, who led the stage for most of the evening, introduced the two guests of honour and 2015 DAREarts Cultural Award recipients to the 350 guests and DAREarts hard-core supporters and sponsors: broadcaster and fashion leader Jeanne Beker and Olympian/Pan Am gold medalist & Indigenous ambassador Waneek Horn-Miller.
“Waneek and Jeanne are true Canadian role models,” said DAREarts Founder, Marilyn Field. “Like DAREarts, these women motivate, empower and inspire excellence in the lives of those around them.”
Judith Beaver, Michelle Khela, Kohilan Mohanarajan, Blake Perryman, Dante Royale Scholar, Elizabeth Ward, six very moving and courageous teenagers at risk went on the stage to celebrate the power of the arts and to ignite change in life.
Each of them shared their personal life stories and challenges after receiving their DAREarts Leadership Awards and before receiving standing ovations from the crowd.
The event raised $240900 thanks to donations, silent and live auctions, and, of course, the generous sponsors of the night and the splendid dinner.
Donations can still be made to help DAREarts achieve its goal of empowering youth at risk to tackle life challenges and become leaders, via their website www.darearts.com or through campaigns like Don Matthews‘ Feed the Fro at www.feedthefro.com where you can donate to watch his HUGE afro haircut grow, and grow, and grow… hopefully until next year!
