We searched for the closest restaurant to have foie gras during our stay at Hotel Le Crystal Montreal and ended up with a pleasant surprise, Europea.
It was the smirk we received from Restaurant Europea’s hostess when we tried to walk in on a fully booked night (which is, probably every night) that told us we had to come back (and made us feel ignorant).
Luckily, they happened to have a table for us for the following evening.
Dining at Europea is not just a fine-dining experience; it is also an enjoyment of pieces of highly creative culinary art.
Delightful surprises such as mozzarella “cigars” (deep fried mozzarella sticks), prosciutto (hanging on clothesline) with truffle popcorn and goat cheese lollipops, lobster truffle broth, lemon cucumber sorbet, smoked salmon crisps, are served before and in between orders to keep you busy while the kitchen prepares for the next dish.
Foie gras is seared on a hot stone and caramelized with ice-wine.
Sea bass is cooked in a hay-lined pot and enjoyed with a very complementing grapefruit puree.
Deer tartar is brought out from the kitchen and smoked right on the dining table.
To complete the meal, a passion fruit panna cotta is served followed by a sweet surprise: a cotton candy tree with individual-packaged sweets dangling from the branches.
